I swear, God must have been in a playful mood when he designed me! Its not enough that eating makes me horridly thinner, caffeine/energy drinks make me sleepy, and I want to sleep in the AM instead of the PM (it just feels unatural!) then, THEN, add the fact that I'm NEVER hungry at breakfast. BUUUUT, come 23:30 every night like clock work, I could eat a whole range of farm animals! Ugh, I'm just irritated that I HAVE to get out of my frickin warm bed every night. Been doing it since 1999! Ok rant end

I know exactly how you feel. It's 12:30 am and I wont be tired till at least 5 am.

I do have to wonder, what would happen if you were able to fall into your natural rhythm. Like, if you had a night job so you slept during the day and got your full 8 hours. ate what you wanted to when you are up and just did what felt natural. I'm really curious how different things would be for you!

I agree- the best part of a night's sleep for me is always between 5:30 am and 6- when the alarm goes off! Up until then I am tossing and turning and in and out of bed

Wow Dan, you're making me wonder too... Imagine not having to fight my body's norm... Idk how life would be,never even gave it a thought before now, but the word 'serenity' comes to mind...

Trippin, have you ever heard of or looked into Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder? My bf has this, he was sent to a sleep clinic, but they didn't offer much help, but most people with this disorder get naturally tired after 2am, with him it is usually around 4 am. They told him the best thing to do would be is to have a job that started after noon so he could follow his natural rhythm.
People with this disorder just do have a different circadian rhythm, which you probably already know affects the time of sleep, peak period of alertness, core body temperature, hormonal and other body rhythms. Some of them can train themselves to get on a more common rhythm, but it usually doesn't last. With my bf it doesn't work at all. But the thing I think I remember you saying that sleeping pills don't help? People with this disorder often have no luck with sleeping pills, same with my bf.. he takes them and is still up till 3 or 4 am, even tho he has to be up at 7 am for work. Just thought I would put that out there for you, sounds very possible. My bf follows his natural sleep phase on his days off, which ya sometimes makes our life a little hard, but he does so much better if he is able to follow his own normal sleep pattern. Otherwise, when he has to be up early he just describes it as feeling like death. Even if he falls asleep earlier, and has to wake in the morning, still feels like death. He also gets really hungry around 1-2 am. And has to get out of bed and go eat.

Wow Anika, that DOES sound exactly like my experience. Been this way since I was 14... Atleast now I dont feel so bad for sleeping in on weekends, after reading up on it. Everyone thinks I'm weird and lazy...

My bf is like that a lot, he has to catch that window, also when he does fall asleep at a "normal" time, the sleep is very poor quality, he tosses and turns and wakes every ten minutes. He only seems to get good quality sleep if he sleeps during the day.
However, when he misses sleep he can barely function. He is not like me, I can be awake for days and function quite well, he looks like he will kill over and die . That is probably the bipolar. He doesn't understand how someone could be awake days on end and not look tired and function so good. ![]()

Yip! Its allowed me to KEEP my jobs! I would have been falling asleep left, right and centre behind every desk I've had if I didnt have good ole bp

Awww, that is EXACTLY how my bf feels, like everyone thinks he is lazy. He is not, and you are not. Depression is a biggy with this too. It's hard when you have kids cause you are expected to be on this rhythm society is on, but forcing doesn't seem to do people with this disorder any good. And yeah I think it usually kicks in in adolescence.

I'm a night person, too. I"m not hungry for breakfast either. Even though I've been getting up at 6:30 every day for five years to go to work, I still drag my butt up every morning and don't feel even remotely awake until around 2 p.m....
I'm hungriest around 3:30 p.m., actually.

Pretty sure I'm gonna go back to my usual 4hr nights. That way I'm awake for midnight meal, and I dont wake up groggy and hateful in the morning... Guess I cant 'fix' my circadian rhythm...
