I have recently started experiencing joint pain. There is a lot of discomfort when I walk now. Its frustrating because Im not very old. I dont think I could stand for a long period of time, either. Ive always experienced mild pain, but it would quickly go away within a day. I think seroquel may be the culprit.

I find mental anguish easier to deal with then physical pain.

I also find physical pain, perhaps with the exception of childbirth pain, much harder to deal with and I fear becoming old for that reason.

If you are on Lithium, you cannot take NSAIDs for joint pain.

Im hoping that its a side effect from seroquel so it will deminish when I stop taking it.

Its frustrating because I like wandering around but its uncomfortable to walk.

Take NSAIDS while you are waiting for the side effects of Seroquel to wear off. NSAIDS are excellent medications if you are not on Lithium.

I do take Lithium!

I need to make an appointment with my pdoc and find a GP.

Problem is, Lithium and Seroquel list joint pain for side effects.

I see - then it is tough, because NSAIDS is the number one choice for joint pain. Had you been on Lithium before you started on Seroquel?

So it seems that Lihium alone does not cause joint pain - right?

I think it is OK not to tolerate Seroquel. I could not tolerate Seroquel either. It is OK - there are other AP's besides Seroquel. Lithium, by contrast, is one in its class. There is nothing quite like Lithium. You are lucky if you can tolerate Lithium.

I'm going to make an appointment with the doctors. I think it is gout. (So I'm not sure if the medication I'm taking is affecting it)

I'm going to ask to get tested for other stuff to, just to be certain it's not anything serious. I'm scared.

I think it's a food allergy -- which can cause gout flare-ups.
I didn't think about it, but I think my physical pain is related to my diet. (I have bowl issues all the time and have cut most caffeine from my diet, need to completely cut diary and "purine-rich foods"...)

t.t

I've been eating a lot of "purine-rich foods" in the past few months and also encountered this issue a few months back...it was not as severe. 2 days ago I also experienced "flu-like-aches" that amplified current pain to the level that its at now. (It's not super-terrible but I shouldn't neglect it!) I got a bad cough that went away overnight.

...Also means I need to quit drinking alcohol (severely limit myself?), which preceded this a month ago. (I was drinking a little bit every other day)

writing it to remember~

Aww confused, I can understand. Pain SUCKS!!

Where is the joint pain, specifically? And what does it feel like? My mom has gout, not fun. there are soo many causes of joint pain tho. Doctor is a good idea, and I hope they will know.

Try not to get too scared till you get some info. Could be something simple, hopefully it is. Just try to keep calm and open about it till you see the doctor.

It's my big toe/ankles/knees.

My wrists and elbows hurt a little. (moreso wrist, but that's because I have bad posture...which i need to work on)

I also remember that I ate 2 bags of dove dark chocolate and ate a pint of ice cream in the past 1 1/2 weeks. I ate most of the chocolate preceding the pain. My mood has been terrible the past 2 weeks, including this week, too.

That is all the joints that would most likely be affected with gout. I am not exactly sure how they test uric acid levels, but they can test it in the kidneys, and urine. X-rays to check for crystal deposits, and I believe my mom had joint fluid taken to be tested.

My moms is visible to the eye, at least with her toes. Very red, a bit knobby looking, but she has had it for a long time. I know she is on a medication for it, tho I am not sure what, and she does not watch her diet very well. Sorry Confused I hope it isn't gout, but there is pretty good treatment, and it can be pretty much halted I think in some people.

That is interesting about the chocolate, make sure you tell the dr that. And the moods, well hard to know which is the chicken or the egg. Cause being in pain messes with the mood, but so does food, and other health issues.

Oh Confused, thought of something else. Since you can't take NSAID's, sometimes they will offer people with joint pain cortisone injections for the pain and inflammation. I had a few rounds of this in my shoulder when I lost the mobility of my shoulder and arm, basically from horrific pain. Felt like my bones would break if I moved them.

It wasn't till I went to physio and I got a big lecture about cortisone injections. I did research it and not so good. It can thin the bones (osteoporosis) and cause serious damage to the joints. It can also weaken the tendons or cause them to rupture. So while it does work quick to relieve the pain, long term might not be worth it. Anyways, just thought I would give you a heads up in case they offer that route. Then you can research it, I wish they had told me that first.

I think I will try to keep a food journal. Hopefully watching my diet will help out. It's funny because I have no swelling or visible inflammation. It's tolerable in regards to pain level, but I feel like I should get it looked at now, then wait.

I will remember that about the corisone injections. Thank you for telling me.

Feeling useless doesn't help. I'm pushing my boyfriend away.

going back on the conversation you guys were having, i would rather have physical pain than mental because at least you can see the damage so to speak with mental issues you cant see it ,the demons are just there pounding away at your brain, i suffer greatly with lower back pain and some days i can hardly walk either, so i get where you are coming from

All the back pain that I had in the shoulder region went completely away when I started standing at work, while eating, and in the public transit. A complete cure.
