Yes, depression can cause this ((((home))) There are lots of things to try, naturally, to help sleep. You do right to get up out of bed if you can't fall asleep after 30 min or so of trying. Is it cool/warm enough? Are all the lights out? Is it quiet? Can you calm your thinking, and think only about peaceful things? It isn't a good thing, from what I've read, to watch tv...too "exciting"... can you take a calming bath, drink some milk, or do stuff like that to help?

Oh yes, being depressed means that sleeping patterns are totally disrupted, among other things...
Are you seeing someone? Maybe they might either prescribe something (if you have not been sleeping for ages), provide some relaxing techniques, or help work through specific issues. |

I do that too. My mind isn't racing, Im not upset. But I'll just lay there and won't be able to sleep. Luckily I have two toddlers who run me all day so majority of the time by the time I go to bed Im so exhausted I pass out. But, then I do that too. I usually just lay there and think of all the things I have to do the next day/week/month or about random boring things that lull me to sleep. I just bascially make sure not to think about anything upsetting, cause then Im up all night. Music helps a lot too. Hope you sleep better.

Hi Homedawg,
I notice that when I am feeling depressed I either cannot sleep at all, or else I sleep too much. I haven't had this problem too much lately, although having a lot on my mind causes me to wake up periodically throughout the night. I hope your sleeping gets back on track! Sleep aids can help, but it's better to get to the root of the depression also, and treat that. Everything else will just fall back into place. Best Wishes, Zen |

thank you sky, always, cutenotcrazy, and zen13 for all you advice.Im sorry I havent answered back. But,that
was cause I was in the psych ward for self injury, seeing and hearing things that werent there, and attempting suicide.I just got out 2 days ago.I was in there for a month but,now that most of my problems are returning I just wish I was back there in the dark, padded quiet room, alone with my own thoughts and away from the troubles of daily life. |

Very sorry to hear this HomeDawg, you shouldn't go through this all alone. Please do talk to a professional so they can alleviate your burden and help with coping strategies etc. And feel free to vent in here as well. Do take care.

hmmm... sleep? what is this crazy thing you speak of.. heheh..
I get the same thing, and so do many of my bipolar friends, therefore I think its absolutely common to depression AND mania AND any other mental disorder (excepting narcolepsy of course ![]() It sucks. They say the best thing to do is to get up and do something, but that usually just wakes me up more. I had a bad sleep last night so I know how you feel. |
