Hi all, I´m curious:
do you have a yearly swing, i.e. one that always hits you the same time of the year? How long does it last?

mine is in Jan/February, like a clock, a fullblown up and down episode that last for 4-6 weeks. Always need extra meds during that episode

Take care you all.

Good question. I'm newly diagnosed but do know of others that suffer the same time every year. I'm tracking my moods now for future reference.

Well my mood during December to January is usually bad but now I'm on meds only time will tell. I do get more than one swing but the rest of the year is hard to predict. Wish me luck lol

I do get more swings during the whole year, a lot of ups and downs, rapid cycling and mixed state.
But this is ALWAYS my yearly swing- on time like a clock the last 7 years... so that´s what I´m referring too....

Do you experience something similar?

Usually I get manic in the late summer/early fall months, depressed Jan-March but last year became severely depressed nov/dec and continued through the rest of the winter.

I used to only ever feel a little down and anxious during late winter and early spring but for the last year and a half it's been depression and anxiety in the spring, anxiety sleeplessness during the summer and depression in the winter.

I would LOVE to have only one mood swing per year. I'd even be happy if I had them 3-4 times per year. I'm not one of those who has several in the same day, but I'm pretty rapid-cycling and I'll be up for a couple of weeks, OK for a week or two or four, then down for a while. Right now I'm in a low period........my summer hypo/mania long since forgotten.

I've been treated for chronic depression for almost 30 years now and taken almost every med out there. My situation is that when a med plus supplements plus exercise work, suddenly they just stop working for no reason. My cycles last maybe 2-4 months. Four good months are almost heavenly -- it is the closest to being "normal" I ever am. But often, it will be two normal months followed by four months of living hell. And my swings are unpredictable, it used to be always fall/winter were bad, now I never know. Summer can be bad, then winter ok ... fall ok one year, horrible the next. I am a real stumper to all the professionals. Which honestly, to me, means that if I didn't still have one child left at home to raise, I would consider moving away and that way if I ever wanted to drink it would at least be away from my family. (and I'm an alcoholic, so drinking would eventually be death to me.)
