Write down or post the pros and cons. What are your reasons for stealing your grandma's pills and what are your reasons not to? What could you do instead of stealing your grandma's pills (such as tell her you are tempted and ask her to put them someplace safe?)? What are the pros and cons for your alternative plans? What could you do that is legal and moral to help yourself to feel better? (exercise, relaxation techniques, get a massage, take a bubble bath?) Pros and cons for those?

If you get caught taking someone else's benzodiazepines you may never be prescribed them if you really need them.

I just won't get caught and my doc is against them anyway so I never get them unless I have a full meltdown like I did in the hospital lol. I just would like to be less tense and get to relax a little that's all.

That's rough Clint I feel ya. It's like the docs don't want to give the med that actually helps feel better. I'm pretty firm with pdoc about what meds I want. But still she won't give me stronger than Klons. Best just try for ur own rx and stay away from gma's. she's got her rx for a reason, don't take hers. Good luck.

I didn't I was able to resist. I mean she's got plenty but stealing hers is no good so I didn't. I just want to feel at peace once and a while and benzos give me that but my doc won't give them to me for fear of addiction.

My doctor almost never prescribes them. For me that is good I popped them like candy when I was prescribed them ten years ago. I have several friends who are addicts because they are prescribed them. I think they work for some people but really they are only a band aid. When they wear off the anxiety is back for me is would be worse. My doctor does not prescribe them because of the high risk of addiction. I have a friend who has a doctor that prescribes them at the drop of the hat I know they are not the right fir for me.

I'm kinda a addiction capable kinda person. So I understand why not buy that still don't make me like them less. I don't know why you would be insulted of there existence? I just would like some quick bit of relaxing moment. But that's all.

Maybe I don't take a high enough dosage of klonopin (1.5 mg), but I don't feel that I am dependent on the drug. I did not take my daytime dosage over the holiday break because I was not at work, a need then because of stress. I didn't miss the dosage. Am I acting cavalier about this? I still refuse to give up my nighttime dosage even when I drink. I do love that period of calmness that allows me to sleep peacefully.

Only problem is, if something happens and you have to go to the hospital and most every one does a drug test especially with a Bipolar diagnosis .. You show positive and have no valid RX, it opens up a whole can of worms, you would probably not want to wade through.

Yup. I've had the issue from this side and it's really frustrating. It's like saying that I'm less important (entitled to my own meds) or that my pain is less. So very not true, and it really hurts to be invalidated like that. Or that I'm not safe in saving a few stronger things for when they are seriously needed. Taking my safety net is NOT cool.

Yea, Clinte! I am very proud of you!
Seriously, I'm on the other end of this temptation and it breaks my heart when I'm put in second place behind my meds. Your grandma is more important than any temporary thing. Not to mention how much better you'll feel about yourself to not do it.

(MTW, that's a worry for sure.)

Please don't. The addiction is horrible, as are the withdrawals.

Don't do it. I'm an extrememly addictive-natured person, and had a major problem with being addicted to pain pills. I am currently on treatment for them. My doctor prescribes me Valium for anxiety, but it didn't make me feel like the other pills, so I took some of my stepfather's pills. My mother found out and now won't speak to me.I didn't even need the pills anymore-that's the stupid thing, I just thought I did, because I was under a lot of stress. Now I got rid of the stress and I rarely take anything, the Valium included. My doctor of course does not know this and I am ashamed of myself. So don't do it!

Personally I think every person is different I have a friend who takes klonopin and has no issue abusing them. Her sister on the other hand is a full blown addict. I think there are better drugs that work with the chemistry to fix your anxiety. Bentos are more like a band aid within a few hours the anxiety is back. I think temporary use while you are getting stable on another med is fine or some people use them only at night for sleep.
