Ann, my cat sitter, shared this sad story: her great niece, after they all spent Christmas together as a big extended family, hanged herself in her bedroom at home. She had been receiving counseling for months. She had wonderful parents. She herself said once: "I have wonderful parents and I love my school, I just do not know why I am so unhappy all the time". Sounds like a completely endogenous depression without anything situational. Horrible.

It's horribly sad. And I know exactly how she feels. Been in that place many times (when I was younger).

I need to go by her house tomorrow to pay for her services and pick up my apartment key. What would be a decent thing to say, if anything?

Wow that's tough. I'll send good thoughts their way. It does sound like severe depression. I'm really sorry to hear of this.

And to think that she was able to devise the plan to hang herself, which is so far harder than to OD, while being depressed. She had no energy for living but plenty of energy to plan and execute her death, how sad.

Maybe buy them some sweets for comfort or a book for understanding?

did she ever talk to you about it?

it's sad, but i guess that's the way with many people that want it so bad- no energy to actually enjoy life, but when it comes to ending it, most people at least have a clear mind about how and where they are going to do it.

it is strange- but i guess the pain for some people is so bad, that they just have no choice

Ive been down that far before so I can understand. Sometimes the pain is so much, you cant continue living the way you are cause its pure hell. I luckily survived my attempts. But as far as saying something the only thing I could think of is let her know your there for her and you can be here sholder if she needs it. I couldnt imagine loosing a child especially one that she was trying so hard to help. Once again ill be sending goood thoughts out.

Maybe bring by something to eat and just say "I'm very sorry for your loss." I know she's not the direct family but I remember when my mom died lots of people brought us food.

Otherwise, there isn't much to say, if she talks about it just listen. Sometimes people just need to be sad and tell the story.

Listen to them and tell them you're sorry for their loss, my sister killed herself by hanging herself in 1987 i still don't understand why and I feel the same as the day she did it. There are no right or wrong words so just be kind and food is a great help it's hard to make meals when you're going through that

I was about that age the first time I seriously considered killing myself. Sometimes I wonder if it was a mistake not too... Well, you've been there too. Poor family and friends. Human existance is so ****ed up.

Thank you. Like the hug idea. She is away today. The funeral took place yesterday. I will stop by when Ann is back - she lives in an adjacent condo complex - give her a hug and ask about the funeral.

Human existence is ****ed. And to think about that it was completely unprovoked.
