Since I am old I will break this down into the young me and the older me.

When I was a teenager, young adult I lived and breathed anything about Joni Mitchell . I played her music constantly, knew all the words to her songs.
I was blown away by her talent and creativity. I learned to play the guitar and tried to write songs. Needless to say I wasn't very good and ended up in the computer field in which I did well.
Joni did give me a love for words and a respect for creativity. She also helped me through my first long bout of depression.

The older me would like to be and emulate two things.

I wish I had enough consistency in my life to become one of those Crossfit people.

In starting my new Heroin Action Reform group, I wish I could channel Martin Luther King. I have always had a lot of respect for him.

I don't know if this thread belongs here, but I just wanted some light conversation with my bipolar friends.

This is a good question.

When I was a kid, sadly the person I wanted to be was my ex-best friend who was extremely toxic. At the time I thought I was trash and she was a shinning star, because of the things she told me. I realized later in life that this was not the case. She was the trash and I was the star, and she knew that so she worked hard to break me down. It's funny how when I saw her again when we were 22 vs 15, the last I'd seen her, she was dressed exactly the same as back then. Hair exactly the same. Socks rolled exactly the same way. And still exactly that same "I'm better than you, let me show off" attitude! It was like a "wow" moment for me.

Other than that, I never wanted to be anyone else that was a real person exactly.

I want to be imaginary people that I make up in my head. But, those people become characters in my stories, my protagonists and sometimes even the antagonists, depedning on the story. Not all of the characters, but a lot of them. So, I do get to be them.... sort of.... But I get to create their lives and make their choices, but I also get to decide their consequences. I also create the people I don't want to be. But, you know, that's a different topic.

These are two very do-able things. It's never too late to make a difference.

Maybe. Or maybe you can do good in other ways. Having a title or specific job isn't the only way to do good. You could maybe be a voleneer for an organization like, you could help build houses for the poor or people who lost their homes in disasters. Or, you could volenteer at the hospital and bring joy to people who are sick. Or, you could volenteer at a shelter or soup kitchen to see that people get meals or a place to sleep for the night.

Making a difference doesn't always mean changing the world. Bringing a smile to a face that had none can do amazing things.

Sorry... my spelling isn't so good today... >.>

I admire Bill Cosby. He dropped out of high school in tenth grade but later got his GED and went to university and completed his doctorate in teaching. I like to teach but I have little formal education, just books I have read on my own.

I don't want to be anyone but ... Me.
I am pretty certain I have made a huge difference in some peoples lives. Any changes in my life from birth until now would change everything I have done and become.. No thanks, I will just stay me.

I am a great person ! I have no reason to want to be like anyone else.

I wish I could be a mechanic. I have this desire to fix things. Cars would be nice. People would be nice too, so a doctor or a therapist. But mostly I wish I Could be myself. What a weight off my shoulders that would be.

I think I know why this was hard to answer Speed. I used to really really look up to a famous environmental scientist, to the point I always wished he was my dad, or that I had a dad like that. I have never been interested in celeberties, but was really extremely taken with this man and what I *thought* he was. It was someone I grew up watching on TV and documentaries since I was a young child. In my mind simply great! Perfect, would never hurt anyone. Of course no one is perfect.

A movie about his life came out a few years back. Turned out he had choosen to abandon his wife and children over his career. It was not pretty at all. Ouch! My own father abandoned us too. So lesson learnt you never know if you would want to emulate someone else. You don't know what that might entail. Whatever his reasons were, or my fathers.. That is not something I want to emulate in my own life.

So I will stick to me, I can live with that. At least I do know who I am, I have my own crosses to bear like everyone else, but I know what they are and why they are there.

I wanted to be a journalist until I was 17. Amy Goodman was my inspiration. Then I decided to become a mathematician instead.
