My doctor mentioned something I hadn't heard of today: n-acetylcysteine (NAC) as a treatment for bipolar. Evidently, there have been some studies that show it's effective with several mental/behavioral health issues, including bipolar disorder. I'm reading some research articles now (Journal of Psychiatry and Neuroscience amongst others). I did a search here on the forums and saw it mentioned with Autism and a post about schizophrenia. I didn't see anything else, so I thought I'd ask: has anyone here tried NAC as part of bipolar treatment? Heard of someone who has? Anything at all to share about it.

I just started taking it a few days ago. I have bipolar 1 rapid cycling. It is too early to tell if it will help.

Has anyone heard about Lithium Orotate. It is an over the counter supplement not the prescription Lithium. From what I read it crosses the blood brain barrier. You need to take much less of it than the prescription Lithium to get the same benefits. Therefore side effects are minimal. I am very curious about it because I have tried to take prescription lithium 3 times and had to stop because of side effects.

I'll be interested to hearabout your experience with NAC. Please update after a while. I read it can be particularly helpful for people who haven't had success on the traditional meds.
I haven't heard of Lithium Orotate...will have to do some research.
In the meantime, I did order some NAC. We'll see...

I received my NAC last night, so I'm starting it today. Here's hoping!
