so what did every one think?

i saw interviews with david o russell and he nearly cried many times talking about his son who has bipolar disorder.

his son also had a cameo in the movie as the teenage boy videotaping the main character.

It was an excellent movie. While I don't typically enjoy comedy-romance types of films, Cooper and Lawrence both do an excellent job with their characters. The movie was well directed, and smoothly flowed through being a drama, telling a story, having laughs, and the romantic ending. Furthermore, Cooper and Lawrence are both damn attractive to me :P

The only real criticism I would have about the film is that they portray the characters being a little bit over the top, but then again, I enjoyed it so much because I've been in their shoes before. It's not meant to be a serious film about mental health, so I wasn't expecting a serious portrayal that tries to hit on every fine aspect of it. If anything, it does an excellent job with the topic of mental health, without being a serious mental health drama type film.

All in all, a well put together film, that's at the very least enjoyable, but can be very heartfelt and relatable for many of us here.

It's terribly dull. The only redeeming part of the film is the exceptional performances put on by the actors.

i'm waiting for it to be released on dvd- like i do with most movies.

so it's going to be a while since i see it.. as it's not reached UK theaters yet as far as i know.

i know it's in america- and the only reason i know that is because i saw it rated in the movie box office charts.

I look forward to seeing it when it comes out on DVD. I was hoping its depiction of bipolar would be accurate rather than contributing to the stigma, and it sounds like that's the case.

I thought it was quite a good movie, the guy had a little bit of an anger problem though. I thought it was very well done. Great story line just overall a good movie. I didnt think it added to the stigma at all really.

I would like to see this. My mother in law saw and interview with all the actors and I guess uhm.... is it Robert De Niro? I thinks so well I guess he broke down crying in the interview because his son has a mental health concern.

Yeah it was dinro. I saw the interview and was suprised to see him so upset about it. But it was kinda moving in a way.

Ok that made me want to see it... Diniro and his son... I hadn't even heard of it until here. I wonder if probation would allow me to take my son out to a movie, doubtful but it could be good for both of us. Anger problem? Both son and I can relate to that. I'm curious if it compares to stuff we've been through.

I read a thing that said Bradley Cooper has had bipolar people approaching him to thank him for his performance.

On the one had its good. On the other hand we're all different how it effects us. But, anything positive is better than negative.

I guess I'm going to be the odd woman out here. I thought it perpetuated the stigma and stereotypes of bipolar people not taking their meds, being resistant to treatment, being violent, etc. I was really hoping to see the character really try to rebuild his life and get back on his feet. It didn't show him really managing his illness when he came out of the hospital. Eventually I suppose he must have to some degree. Well, I won't say too much since many of you haven't seen it yet. I guess I just had to put my two cents in. I was disappointed with it.

By contrast, this movie was much more than I thought it would be. It's not just about mental illness, it's about love and obsession, family and football, dancing with disaster.....and dancing like the stars!

It was not triggering for me, although there were a few cringe-worthy moments when Pat would go off on one of his 4 AM tirades over something totally irrelevant that made my husband steal sideways glances at me as if to say "Now, you see what I live with!!". But I recognized myself more in Tiffany, whose illness is never really specified in the movie but who is at once more F'ed up and more vulnerable than Pat could ever be.

Great movie. We enjoyed it thoroughly, and understand why it was nominated for the Oscars.

i didnt like it that much.... ending was good... but Bradley Cooper he totally misses it... its like he cant forget how cute/successful he is while acting at least he thinks he is... his episodes look faked... and why the hell he is using garbage bag as jacket.... i dont know any single bipolar who does that... we are not crazy... i remember even when i was depressed my fashion sense was quite intact... there was obviously shopping phase and i still love the clothes i bought then... why... why would anyone use garbage bag...

loved Jennifer Lawrence of course and Robert de nero too... but Bradley Cooper...he is not brad pitt ...

He is NOT AT ALL BRAD PITT!! I m just a girl here but I don't think he's hot. There is only ONE BRAD, I have the Fight Club poster in my room that's how much I adore him. He's a generous man as well (Pitt), IMHO.
