Today wasn't a very good day. I got a condescending email from a teacher today and it just ruined the day for me. Now I feel stressed and anxious.

It is an online class and she accused me of not spending more than a minute looking at each powerpoint for the class. Uh, I DOWNLOAD THEM, I don't look at them on the website. I have every powerpoint and word document downloaded. I have every example program printed out. Don't even accuse me of anything! USLDJfsljLDJf!

She also made a snarky remark about how little I had submitted in the past couple months. Uh, of course I haven't, I've been having problems. DUH. I know when the last time I submitted something was, rubbing it in my face does what exactly?

Ugh... I feel so frustrated and angry.

Instead of just getting an email of a few sentences explaining which accommodations she was willing to do or not do, I ended up with an email from her several paragraphs long. It felt like I was being scolded like a child.

Excuse me? I didn't ask her opinion. I just submitted a request for accommodations.

ANNND this is why I never bother making schools/teachers/etc aware of my conditions.

Now I will be up all night feeling like crap. :-(

Thanks Teach for making things worse for me. I appreciate that a lot. *thumbs up*

Sorry punky that's too harsh of her in my opinion I had an email from my son's teacher earlier this week about how much trouble he's in for calling another 5th grader a name, then to find out my son was kicked in the back by the kid, they don't notify me about that. Then teacher said I need make my son quit swearing and that he's slower to learn than the other boys ... Well yea duh Einstein my boy has learning disability and in special Ed ... Some teachers seem just plain mean! Ugh pisses me off and I totally understand why you'd not bother seeking help, because there's no way to tell what reaction, support, or detrimental power trips you may get from different teachers.

Like any people there are good supportive teachers, evil jerks (extreme of me to say sorry), and everything in between.

Hope you can calm down and rest, remember she can say whatever she thinks but it doesn't make it true. And there's a solution it just may involve careful wording and diplomacy. People here can prob help you well with your response to her if you want, some very smart teachers in the forum here. Hang in there, hopefully you and I both will finally sleep tonight and have a new better day tomorrow.
Thanks for this!

Thanks. I am just trying to relax and get some sleep now. I have standup comedy playing on the tv.

She was overly harsh. I've emailed the disability services lady. I've contacted my friend that is a tutor and deals with this teacher on a regular basis to get some advice as to how to reply to the email.

I am just lucky this is an online class and the communication was via email. If this was an in person class and she had said these things to me face to face, I would have probably walked away crying and find it nearly impossible to ever show up in class again.

I have to have her for 2 more classes that I know of (and there are no alternative teachers) so I know I need to handle this carefully.

Hope you got some sleep, comedy is good. I would likely cry too if it were in person... I have cried at IEP meetings before for my older son 17 now... And it was horrible crying in front of them, I swear it just made them smirk more. Last principal meeting, I luckily did not start crying, probably because my little son was crying so hard he couldn't breathe, I stayed professional somehow. They say he's highly reactive emotionally and I should get him in therapy, that their school therapist doesn't have time for him... Not a lot of compassion, I need to figure out his rights better, cuz I don't think it's right how they've been handling him. Anyway enough about my stuff, this is your thread.
I think you're smart to handle it carefully... it sucks so bad, but teachers are the ones deciding your future, so yes, must send the right response.

I'm sorry that happened, punky.

She sounds like an ignorant fool. Too bad she's also a teacher. She obviously doesn't understand much about computers if she doesn't realize you can download the presentations.

I am totally with you on the stand-up comedy thing. That's always my go-to relief for a bad day: something funny! Even if you can't laugh at least it's light hearted to take your mind off the drama some.

Punky, stress is a major builder of acid in the fluids and tissues of the body. Try
squeezing 2 fresh lemons into 8 oz of water and drinking it; if you don't feel better in 4 hours, repeat the process. That should do it for you. I often call it "the lemon thing".

Some of us use the lemons on occasion to help reduce acidity (even your meds contribute to that as do some foods).

Hope you feel better soon.
