I'm getting fatter by the moment. And don't tell me to stop eating. This is absolutely ridiculous.

I gained 20 lbs. in six weeks on Zyprexa. My diabetes also went completely out of control, and I honestly thought I was going to die soon. The drug does a great job of tamping down mania and evening out moods, but I had to go off of it too. The good news is, I lost every ounce of the Zyprexa weight and then some!

Whatever you do, though, do NOT quit without your pdoc's knowledge. S/he will want you to taper off because you don't want withdrawal symptoms, and you probably need another AP. I'm on Geodon now, which is weight-neutral (in fact, I've lost a little more weight in recent weeks)...you might want to ask your doctor about it.

I could call Monday and see if that pdoc is still around or who my new one is.

Good thought.....you really should discuss it with somebody before you do it. Going cold turkey is NOT a good idea at all, the rebound mania would probably be hell!

I did go cold turkey off zyprexa while IN mania last Fall and I just felt really funky, not more manic than I already was. I'd love to discuss it but I feel so stuck on it.

Wait until you see your Pdoc and taper off as he/she decides is safest for you.
Don't go cold turkey, please.

I agree with Bipolar Nurse, don't quit without consulting at least the advice nurse and explain that you are in transition of new pdocs. I've had zyprexa withdrawal in addition to a med my body didn't agree with (geodon) and it felt horrible. Besides, it's not like you're going to gain 20 pounds by the time you see your new pdoc.

Also, it depends on what your dosage is. My zyprexa dose was only 7.5 mg and I was only gaining weight because I only exercised once a week and ate whatever I wanted. It also could have nothing to do with the zyprexa. Lithium is known for weight gain as well as birth control. So it could be another med causing weight gain. I tried geodon to nix weight gain and it gave me horrible side effects in addition to the pdoc telling me it isn't the zyprexa causing weight gain, it was me not exercising or eating healthy.

Depakote made me eat more as is zyprexa. Zyprexa is known for making you gain weight without trying. It changes the way your body stores fat.

If you can't reach one of the pdocs,
call ur pharmacy. I wasn't able to
reach my pdoc and my pharmacist
told me what dose to taper down to
and for how long.

Several years ago, was prescribed Zyprexa at the lowest dose. One dose made me feel like I wanted to kill. Scared the crap out of me. End of Zyprexa.

I gained a lot of weight on Zyprexa too, but the ravenous appetite did taper off and i did manage to lose weight while still on it... It was hard, but doable.
