Well I went to a psychiatrist and was there for about 2 and 1/2 hours, testing and talking. The results are that I have Bipolar II. I've told my T about it and am writing on here today. Otherwise I haven't shared it with anyone and that's OK for me for now.

I thought I had Bipolar II before the appointment and it confirms it, yet I think I have so many things. Anyway I am on lamotrigine 25mg. No rash or other side effects so far. It's Ok, it's just sinking in. Honestly as this is my first time sharing it outside of professionals I hope that someone would respond even to just say hi. At any rate I do appreciate reading this board as I have been doing for a while.

Hello, Manymiles, and welcome to Psych Central. Thank you for letting us know that your psychiatrist has made a diagnosis and that you are taking Lamictal. It's one of the best, in my view, and I hope you will find that it stabilizes things for you nicely.

We're here to help in any way that we might. Please feel free to talk to us whenever you wish and about anything that you wish. We've probably all been there, done that, and know a few things that might help.

Take good care of yourself and be pro-active in your care.

Nice to talk to you.
Thanks for this!

Hi Manymiles ,

I have to say I know the feeling of hearing the diagnosis, I myself was just diagnosed a month ago and truthfully was not what I was expecting to hear at all, But it is what it is... I was actually first put on lamotrigine but for some reason gave me extremely bad headaches. So they took me off of it and on to lithium. So enough a bout me just saying HI

Hi, welcome to PC.

when I found out, it was a relief. I'd been struggling with so many things my whole life. Knowing that I wasn't crazy, and that I actually had something recognizable was a ton of bricks off my back, relaly. And, finding the forum has been a huge help because now I don't feel like the only one in the world with all the problems I've had.

For me, the lamotrigine was fine until I upped my dose the first time, then I got a small rash on my back, just above kidney. It ended up not being the rash, but they took me off it instantly. I hope that it all goes well for you, I'm the only one I've herd of that's had the problem on here. I also seem to be rather sensistive to meds, though. I'm allergic to a lot of anitbiotics, too.

Hi, Manymiles, and welcome to PC's Bipolar forum! We're a pretty supportive bunch and I think you'll find us helpful to you in adjusting to this game-changing life event. Being diagnosed with bipolar disorder---not to mention learning to live with it!---is one of the most challenging situations you'll ever encounter, and you'll need time to process it.

Don't be surprised if you find yourself obsessing over your illness or talking too much about it; even if you've suspected it for years, hearing the words pronounced by a medical professional and/or seeing them on a piece of paper with your name on it is a whole new reality. Give yourself enough time to dust yourself off and get back in the metaphorical saddle before trying to proceed to the next step in accepting your diagnosis, but try to avoid over-thinking if you possibly can because it will tie you in knots if you do.

Hope you enjoy your time here. Take care!

Hello,
Do yourself a favor and get the book "Living with Bipolar" by Lesley Berk, Michael Berk, Davind Castle and Sue Lauder. For me it just felt like my whole life was explained in the first two chapters. It assists a great deal in coming to terms and realizing that 'all those times' was actually your illness and not you

Hi. I have recently been diagnosed with bp ll as well. I am on Lamotrigine as well. I am up to 200 mg as my therapeutic dose, and I have found it to be very helpful. Welcome to the forum, and I wish you all the best on your journey of healing and coping with bp ll. We are all here to support you on the path.
