I'm at the point nowadays in which, whenever I get depressed, I feel depressed about my depression. I feel like I'm never going to feel better and that I'll always feel this way and the rest of my life will be worthless because of it. How common is that, and are there any sort of mind tricks that I can use to talk myself out of this? Thanks.

Hi and welcome to Psych Central. What you are feeling is common. Depression can take over your world. I was depressed my whole life and thought it would never go away. But then i found the right antidepressant and therapy and after two years on it I have been depression free so dont give up hope. It could be right around the corner.

Oh it's totally common. If I've been in a good-state for too long, I even start to get paranoid then about "is it gone? When will it turn back up? Is it going to be a bad stretch?" etc etc.

Definitely common. Depression makes everything negative. Sometimes I find affirmations like everything is ok or everything is as it should be help. Look up radical acceptance; it is part of the DBT program and has been most helpful to me thus far.
