I've been thinking about going to my local bipolar support group, I'm just kind of nervous about going I guess lol
I am trying really hard to get stable and improve my life. guess I am just wondering if anyone here has found it helpful
One on one therapy has never really helped me. And I think a big reason is because the pdocs and T don't know what it's like going through mental illness first hand. Most anyway. It'd be really nice to find professionals who have gone through these problems!

I found going to the local support group very helpful because listening to other peoples stories, I discovered that I wasn't alone. it was like, yeah, ive been there, ive done that, how did you cope? in fact, I just got off the phone with a friend I made at a support group I used to go to and weve stayed in touch. we go to dinner and the movies once a month now. we really bonded over our commonalities.

I went to an emotional support group last month, and I intend to go again next week. I think it'll help, in the long run. Best of luck to you.

I went to DBSA last Thursday and I felt ultra comfortable and it was my first time going. I will definitely go back this week.

I'll be the oddball here ... The first group I ever went to was while inpatient. It did not help me at all, Annoyed the hell out of me to be honest. I Prefer my one on one with my T.

My "group therapy/support group" is right here on PC

I go to a DBT group that is for people that have boarderline personality disorder...but I am thinking that maybe going to a bipolar support group would be good for me too.

My case of bipolar is more minor then others, but I still have deal with it...and its a pain...I am just greatful now that I am on meds I have more better days then bad.

Like Cristina said, my first group experience was inpatient. If that's all there was, I'd say screw that! But my T convinced me to try out a group setting outside of inpatient - that he ran, and it's been much different experience. People who legitimately want to be there and want to be more stable. I've liked it so far, and I think it's helped. It's not a bipolar group, by the way. It's an adolescents group.

I attend Drama Therapy its still weird and hard for me to open up but its good fun. There are no bipolar groups in my area. In drama we all have different illnesses. I do attend a depression group they don't understand the bipolar but they try, i am more manic than depressed. The depression group is a god send
