Hello Everyone,

I went manic last Monday and it lasted until Tuesday afternoon. Then I became depressed and have been that way since Tuesday evening. Has anyone had that experience, where the depression spell is longer than the manic spell?
I'm not eating or sleeping very well (I'm either getting too much or too little). I mean I eat like a bird. My tummy has been extremely nauseated. My meds have been changed, but they weren't really working anyway, so now I have to figure out what I'm going to suggest to my doctor. I meet with my therapist today, so hopefully she will pick up my spirits somewhat.
Well, that's all for now.
Hugs from:

My depressed moods always last longer than my manic episodes. I've been depressed for 9 months now with relief since my last mixed episode. I've tried so many drugs in this time and none have lifted the depression. My doctor keeps on working on it and hopefully we will find the right combination soon.

I hope you feel better soon. Keep working with you doctor and therapist until you find a solution.

hypo/mania are pretty short for me. depression is llllllong : (. I wish they were even, i could predict the end of depression then and that would make it far more bearable.

I hope your T is able to help you today.

I've been depressed for a couple of months now. My manic episodes had been lasting only a couple of weeks. I think it's fairly common to have longer depressed episodes, though there are people who just go manic and never fall into the depressi

I have just the opposite. Lately, my mania/mixed states last far longer than pure depression. But I have had periods of uninterupted depression lasting the better part of 6 months. Most of the time I rapid cycle though. I've noticed my illness changing with time, and presenting itself in many ways over the course of my lifetime.

Just curious, what meds have you tried? For me, adding an AD (lexapro) to Zyprexa and Lithium has been helpful. Adding Lamictal to the cocktail has also been helpful. Welbutrin has helped me in the past as well. Some also find that APs are good at relieving depression (if you can handle the side effects :P)

If you haven't tried Lamictal or Welbutrin, i'd suggest starting there. Some BiPolar people are sensitive to serotonin agents. That's my advice offered from experience. I'm no expert. Take it with a grain of salt.

My husband is stable is naturally lower then most, and can go really low. Mine are usually mixed because of meds. So I get really confused when I'm not actually sole crushingly depressed. "Just" depression, not "dangerous" depression only last about 2-4 weeks.

If it's a full episode, my hypo/manias usually last several weeks. The last one that I really remember was about 6 weeks and it was at the beginning of the year. It was pretty much immediately following a three month depression. (I actually remember the DAY that it switched, but that's beside the point.)

My depressions are typically around for months (although this hasn't been quite as much the case for the past few years.. they're shorter, but I have more frequent occurances) and my ups are usually 3-6 weeks I think. I'm not fully sure as I haven't really tracked them. Just thinking back about my party phases and they'd typically kick around for at least a few weeks. Lately though, like the depressions, they've been shorter for the most part.

That is anxiety.

Depression can cause you to eat like a bird, but not to be nauseated. Anxiety causes nausea. Depression can cause both underrating and overeating, but the specific symptom of nausea signals anxiety (boy, do I know those symptoms well!) on top of depression.

This is what Confused posted on my thread and what I will try tonight. Maybe it will help you:

Try this for your stomach;

6-7 slices of ginger
Half a lemon cut up
A dash of cinnamon or cayenne pepper

Boil in 2 1/2 cups of water for 15 minutes. Let cool and then drink. (Drink it while its still warm)
Ginger helps sooths upset stomachs
