I have two grown kids. My son is 26 and my daughter is 23. My daughter is starting her first year as a teacher this year and I see no mental health issues with her. (I'm bipolar)
My son is not okay. A few months ago they gave him a Dx of Psychosis N O S. He was in bad shape, but he came out of it in a week and was back to work in two weeks. His work called a few hours ago and they had sent him home. This week he had been acting strangely at home ( he lives with us) and apparently at work too. My fear has been that he might be schizophrenic rather than bipolar. He took the meds last time but he has always been reluctant to take even an aspirin and his experience with what they gave him was bad, so I fear he won't be willing to try any more. From day one this kid has been so sweet and loving. He still is, but he is far away and I miss him! It's killing me! |

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. Obviously we can't diagnose on the board but I hope he gets the help he needs. Without more information I can't really give you any insight into whether it's bipolar or schizophrenia, and of course none of us here are psychiatrists.
I hope things get better for you and your son. Try to convince him to see a pdoc or at the very least a therapist.

Thanks wildflower. It helps to write about it. The stack of tissues just keeps growing. My usual support people can't understand very well except my mom and I can't go to her (I will tell her when I can get myself under control better) because it hurts her even more. She watched my sister and me go through it and she tends to blame herself.
Jeff bought a car he couldn't afford a few weeks ago so that seems like a possible check in the bipolar column. But then I don't know as much about schizophrenia. I know that I can't get a diagnosis here, but any insight would be great. |

I don't know much about schizophrenia either. Maybe research on the schizophrenia part of psych central?

Also check out the stuff about schizoaffective! I don't really know anything about them, but I've read a lot of people on here view schizoaffective as being somewhat between bipolar and schizophrenia.

Thank you RedPanda I have wondered about that too.
Miguel's Mom, ya, I don't know. He had a psychotic episode in May. He doesn't seem as bad right now as he did then ( he confirms that) but I really don't know what is going on in his mind. I hate this! |
