Got up and got my son off to school and then I got back on the couch and slept for four hours. This has been going on for a year. But now the Lamictal is making me feel better so am I still in a deep depression or just lazy??

Could be some lingering depression, or it could simply be a habit at this point. Do you drive him to school or leave the house at all? You could try not going right home - even if you take a laptop or something to a local coffee shop or somewhere. Just to get out of the pattern. The couch is too much of a temptation. Are you sleepy and not getting enough rest at night? That could be something completely unrelated like sleep apnea or something.

Try breaking the routine a bit. Get out of the house. Go for a walk, or to a park, even if you're just sitting on a bench people-watching. Eventually you'll probably find that you don't want to be on the couch much anymore.

If you still find yourself craving the extra sleep, talk to your doctor about a sleep study to find out how much rest you're actually getting at night.

It could be related to your medications as well and even though you are feeling better you could still have a lingering of the depression. But if you are feeling quiet bit better I would say it may just be habit and agree with dragonfly2 regarding some of the ideas to break the habit. Wishing you well.

I don't take him to school. I get him up and then get on the couch while he gets his shower etc. I feel like I usually get enough sleep at night, 8 hours. I take melatonin to help with that. I am not up to a full dose of Lamictal yet so that will help I hope. I think you are right. I should leave the house when he does and head for Starbucks with my IPad.

When I am in depression that is what I do. I get up and do what I need to (get my kids to school, or in the summer walk the dogs) and then I go back to sleep. Sometimes I am not sleepy, but I do it so the day will pass a little faster.

When I start to feel better I don't want to do that, but my body has become used to the extra sleep. It usually takes a few days to break the cycle, but I am so happy when I do. Good luck!
