Everywhere I look the sleep/wake cycle is stressed as crucially important with managing BP.
It seems like most everybody needs at least 7 to 8 hours at night and maybe even naps during the day.
I'm wondering why less sleep is what works for me ?
Bedtime is around 2am. Wake-up time is around 7am.
If I get more than 6 hours of sleep there's a high chance I'll be depressed.
Is there anyone else who is like this ?
Thanks for this!

Me. I also don't know "exactly" why. I have just accepted that I need less sleep than most as 4hrs is my normal.

I tried sleeping more and it was hell on my bp.
You're not alone

Sleep is so important in managing my mood too. I am ok with 5 - 9 hours, any less or more messes with me. People need different amounts of sleep, do what works for you. If it works best for you then great

I am a self-confessed sleep *****. I like no less than 7 hours. Any less than 7, my sleep cycle gets screwy and my mood swings up further than I would like. I function well on 10+ hours. The other day I got 15 hours and it was glorious!

Martha you aren't the only one. My T and pdoc don't understand it, but any more than 4 to 5 hours and i can be thrown into a weeks to months long depression. It makes no sense, but that is want our bodies/brains need.

not everybody needs 7 hours. Some people are fine with less and it's okay.

I'm good with 6-7 hrs. Any more than that and I feel like a slug. Conversely, when I'm down to 3-5 hours, I'm either manic or about to become that way. Extremes are NOT good for me.

I can handle less than 7 hours a day or two at most. More than that, and it starts a pattern of decreasing sleep time until I am up for a few days straight and I crash. I've always been envious of people who can sleep 4-5 hours and wake refreshed and healthy.

absolutely! Ive always said that the more I sleep the more crappier and less functioning I feel, where as if ive only had 3-4 hours a night the more energetic and on the ball I am the next day! (I am now realising post diagnosis that its probably due to hypomania!)
