I was diagnosed with bipolar a couple years ago after almost destroying my marriage. I've been kind of stable the last couple years taking lamectal, seroquel, and Tenix. I'm always stressed out by my job and normally feeling like I can barely breathe. I started reading this forum this past week because I feel weird.
I went shopping last night and was under control for a little while then started buying things. Didn't really go overboard but easily could have. I'm feeling like I'm in the edge of something not good. Today I felt really down and weepy and then really up and speeding around cleaning the house. Now I feel tired and spaced out. How do I talk to my husband about this without him thinking I'm now going to go out and do something stupid and hurtful? Also, what could be going on with me ? I hope this makes sense! Thanks! |

Sounds like you might be rapid cycling. Could you talk to your pdoc about this? Maybe a med change is in order.

Sounds like you are cycling in and out. The best thing to do is talk to your PDoc first. Also are you on a sleep schedule? My cycling in and out (AKA moodiness) stopped when I started doing a sleep schedule.

Hi,
In tandem with pharmacological intervention (such as the ones being already being used by you), you may also consider taking up group psychotherapy at a clinic. This has been known to increase the chances of positive results. Having a supportive spouse by your side of course helps. |

My sleep has been terrible lately and thinking about it the weird behavior has coincided with not being able to sleep. Up until 1 or 2 then up for work at 6:30. I did notice that I haven't been taking my seroquel at 10 and have been taking it around 11:30. I'm going to try to take it at 10 and see how that goes. Good advice about sleep!
Now when my husband starts looking at me funny and wondering what's wrong. What do I say? Any advice there? I'm not sure he understands that I actually can't control what's going on and I don't want to sound whiny and make him worried ill do something stupid. |

Taking your meds properly and getting your sleep sorted is definitely the first step to keeping stable. Perhaps its time to go and see a T before this gets out of hand. They can give you some coping strategies to keep yourself under control if this is the start of a high. If your husband is worried you can tell him all the steps and techniques you are using to keep yourself stable, this may put his mind at ease. Have you got an appointment with your pdoc any time soon? They can be hard to get in to see so might be best to book one in now in case you cannot fight this high without the aide of medication. Goodluck!

My pdoc is pretty easy to make an appointment with and I can always call him and he gets back with me the same day. I wanted to give it a few days before I called him. I'm going to talk to my husband tonight and ask him to keep an eye on me and also hand over my credit card (Oh if it were that easy). Now I'm thinking if I feel the need to hand over the credit card I need to call the pdoc. Indecision... It makes me nuts!
I'll call him tomorrow and ask his opinion. |

Recognising that you may be going up is fantastic. Many dont realise until its too late. You can fight this off, nip it in the bud before it gets out of control.
Do you meditate? Exercise? Are you eating well? These are basic things that can help keep you stable. What has helped keep you level in the past? Can you use some of those coping strategies again? |

Are you tired when you get up at 6:30?

I'm tired in the mornings and can hardly get out of bed. Im tired right now and stressed and no longer feeling "up" at all (feeling a little depressed). I started taking my seroquel at 10 and upped my lamectal just a bit. I may also take the seroquel a little earlier and see how that goes.

Thanks! I got so busy at work that I haven't had a minute to do anything else. Besides major muscle pain in my shoulders and neck I think I'm more stable. Although I'm having major issues staying on task. So I guess my symptoms have changed based on outside influences. I need to find 5 min during the day to call my pdoc.
