I think I might be bipolar.. I just moved to a small town and don't have a pdoc or anything here. My therapist is an hour away too. My boyfriend keeps telling me I have major mood swings and we have been arguing a lot lately. He tells me he doesn't know what is wrong with me, apparently I've been very hostile and angry, then happy, then depressed, and back and forth. I have issues keeping jobs and have gotten into it with supervisors at multiple jobs. I just finished my EMT class a month ago and still haven't gotten a job with that, and I'm worried my past jobs have given bad references for me. I'm currently unemployed; I quit my job because my boyfriend's sister was supposed to hire me but she dropped the ball on me and won't get in touch with me. Now I'm just a screwed up mess and worrying myself to death. I don't know what to do. I hope somebody who reads this understands.

My DX is depression, social anxiety, and insomnia. I am on citalopram right now. I don't have insurance right now.

Mood swings seem normal in young people. If you are not sleeping or eating or functioning I would drive that hour to get to that prescriber, make it work.

Go to county mental health. You don't need insurance to use them, just bring last pay stub.

Only a psychiatrist M.D. or a psychologist Ph.D. have the qualifications to properly diagnose your symptoms. No one on this site, especially given to tiny fraction of information, can even begin to suggest whether or not you suffer from bipolar disorder - including your boyfriend. All I can say is that you could be bipolar, but then again, you could be the CEO of Wells Fargo Bank. We have no way of knowing.

I saw in a post you made about a monht ago that you switch from pristiq to citalopram- these are both antidepressants, but they are medications of different classes.

Did you notice any correlation in the timing of the problems you are having or an increase in the problems you are having with the switch of medications?

OR: was pristiq a relatively short term medication, and did you happen to notice any kind of timing with the issues you talked about upon starting that one? [like with in a week or two]?

Also, I completely agree with seeing a licensed prescriber.
Contact a county mental health clinic.
Thanks for this!

I switched because Pristiq wasn't working and cost way too much. I went to the doctor just a little while ago and he upped my dosage of citalopram to 40mg and prescribed 5mg of buspirone. I hope that works.
