Well, I don't know how to start this, and maybe is because I never told anybody about it; I don't know, I just feel a little bit embarrased to admit that...
I talk to myself, I do, almost everyday, I've done it since I have memory, even when I was really young. I've done it walking in the street, when I thought nobody could see me. I've done it while cleaning up my house, etc. But the funny part is that sometimes I realize I'm doing it when my daughter asks me "who am I talking to".. It is embarrasing, i don't know why I do it. The only reason I find is that sometimes I have a lot of things to say and nobody to tell them to, so, I keep a conversation wiht myself~ And it is, actually, exhausting, so, when I finally have somebody to talk to, I'm too tired to even start a dialogue. Does anybody else goes trhu something like this? I'm really curious. |

It does, because I try really hard not too look coo coo, and sometimes I forget and I find myself speaking aloud.
I understand can be when I'm maniac, because I just need to talk but yeah, it does bother me and makes me feel bad when my daugther hears me and I have to lie and say "oh no, I was just singing" |

Talking to yourself is normal it is called having a "conscience" and or "self talk". and every human being from the day they have their first normal ability to think and or talk talks to their self to various degrees.
Hang in there. |

biplol, I use to do it all the time too. When you're caught or in public situations around your daughter or friends, make it a little louder so the others can hear you and then answer yourself! I use to carry on whole conversations with myself at work, answer too
![]() You probably talk out loud because you want yourself to "hear"/know/learn something, so listen! Enter into it and treat it as just a loveable, quirky thing you do and "help" it and that will let it help you and then you won't need it anymore.

Oh yea I know lots of normal people who while cooking dinner will hold a conversation -
Oh shoot wheres the butter, there it is over there ok now the milk and mash these potatoes. and so on My own therapist told me she has Dialogues with herself daily and through out the day and that having a dialogue aloud or silent with the personb doing the dialoging is completely normal. What makes it abnormal is if the person is having hallucinations of believing they are talking to some one else and no one is really there or the pserson has other symptoms that go along with that, that point to a physical or mental health disorder. Dialoging in general aloud and or silent to ones self is completely normal with out other symptoms and behaviours to go along with it. Talk with your therapist, family physician and other treatment teams if you have any and they will be able to tell you whether or not what you are doing falls into the normal behavior catagory vs a mental or physical disorder such as terrettes, brain tumors interferring with brain activity, schizophrenia, DID, Bipolor and so on. Hang in there |

(((((guys)))))) thanks so much for your input and ideas.
I don't feel confortable about it, because I'm working on liking myself, but I haven't got to that point yet, so, I feel like most of the time I do stupid things. My conversations aren't about what I'm doing at the moment; usually they are about a specific situation that involves other people in my life, and while I know I'm alone and i don't see anybody else with me, it is not like I'm carry on a conversation wiht just myself, it almost looks like I'm talking to an "imaginary friend" (just to give it a name) That is why it really bothers me. Thanks you so much for your understanding, it is so hard, and you guys are the only ppl I know can truly know how it feels. Angie, love ya too hon~ |

Shoot I will even fess up that I talk to myself sometimes.. lol Sometimes I even get great answers back... I converse in my head sometimes. I even caught myself yelling at a store clerk because she was not ringing up the "sale" price on the lace I was buying. I am usually a very quiet person and was embarrassed by what I heard me saying that I just left. Guess that could be considered talking out loud to self.. LOL
Tis normal tho...of course depending on what "normal" is.. But I am sure lots of folks talk to self outloud or in their head... |

Grins.... Thinks "normal" can be a debatable topic that may even cause those who think they are normal learn they might not be as normal as they thought..
![]() Who would dare to start a new topic .. Describing normal.. smile |

I talk out loud to myself all the time. Usually it's to keep things straight in my head. My kids catch me too and say "you're talking to yourself again". I know that I do it in the car by myself, maybe everyone else thinks I'm singing!? I hope I don't do it too much in public, except I have caught myself in the store, but just whispering. It's embarrassing, but I can kind of laugh about it too. I just say I'm talking to the dogs or cats!
HUGS!

Dont be embarrassed, bipol. I find that talking to myself ((outloud)) calms me down, helps me to think more clearly, helps my memory, including remembering lists of things to do and people's names. When I am alone, which is most of the time, I become my own best friend. It is a love-hate relationship. In talking to myself, I am able to work out some of my toughest inner feelings, such as rewarding myself verbally or scolding. I ask myself questions alot. Sarcasm is my favorite thing to use when I am speaking to myself, because It makes me laugh. I like to think I am somewhat witty. I tell myself jokes and even make them up. Overall My inner conciousness is very strong and has been since I was very young. Being an only child, I have spent much of my time alone and if I didnt have me to talk to I would be completely alone and sad.
So I recommend it.. Talk Away! Out loud! In your house, in front of your daughter(Im sure she thinks you are unique anyway), Talk in the car or on the street. Most everyone now has some sort of remote listining device stuck in their ear anyway, so everyone is doing it. If all else fails and you are still embarrassed, just put your finger to one ear and pretend you are with the secret service. You be you and do what makes you feel comfortable. Out to Lunch.... |
