We all know some of us struggle with being impulsive. What are some of the impulsive things you have done.
I use to be very conservative prior to my bipolar onset. I was diagnosed (8/12) started meds. I stopped taking lithium (5/13). I had my lip eyebrow and tongue pieced (6/13). Then got two tattoos (7/13). When I'm stressed I want to shop. I purchased a $275 purse during Xmas, I buy clothes lots of clothes. Then I bought a new IPhone and of course I had to have a "few" new phone cases and I bought a $300 ring. Oh I have no job (12/13). I bought all these things with my savings that I'm living off of. I got stressed again two weeks again so I got my chin pierced (2/14). At first it seemed as though lithium really slows down my impulsiveness. I currently take three mood stabilizers and I'm back at fighting impulsiveness. My impulsive behavior has always been shopping. The piercing and tattoos are very new. Impulsive shopping is big for me. I spent $2000 on clothes in one day right before I went into hospital. Other impulsive areas - substance use and sex. I do things that are not part of my usual character when my mood is elevated or mixed, and then I have to live with the consequences of what I did. Right now my mood is pretty low, so I'm not particularly impulsive, but I'm also having way less fun. Pros and cons

Rage, self injury, and substances are what I have trouble with. When I am irritable I have trouble controlling my rage, in that I will say rude things, yell, and sometimes become violent. I've never had addiction problems but when I am manic I drink a lot and also take klonopin like candy if I have it available.
I have absolutely no money to shop or get tattoos or piercings so even though I have the urge, the $50 in my bank account stops me. I do tend to cut and dye my hair when I am manic. Like I'll just decide to chop it off myself and then get a box of dye.

The other thing I do is send impulsive emails. I'll write way too much, and send them to people I shouldn't when I'm unwell.

Before I was diagnosed (no psych meds) I had the shopping too, no drinking or stranger sex but my sex drive hit the roof. I began dating a guy I had been good friends with. He was ten yrs younger than me. I had sex with him so often I wore him out. LOL.
1. I dressed very sexy all the time. 2. Wore make-up, accessories and heels 24/7. 3. I spent $300 to get my hair done. 4. I went clubbing every weekend for almost 8 weeks. 5. I also did not sleep much during that almost 8 weeks not a full 8 hrs. 6. I was almost raped bc I went to a house party hosted by someone I met on Twitter. I trusted the person bc they attended the college I graduated from. 7. I checked my mail but did not open it and ended up having 3 months worth of mail. While on other psych meds but not lith 8. I was involved in a physical altercation with my teenage daughter. I hit first. My rage is lethal when I'm manic. I stay off FB (now) bc I cussed one of my sisters out. I also started that. 9. I've ran ppl off the road, got out my car with a baseball bat and walked up to someone's car. I've cussed ppl out in the grocery store (I was experiencing psychosis and thought they were talking about me). While medicated 10. My aunt pissed me off so I egged her house and car. Then rang her door bell so she would know it was me. 11. My daughter's school pissed me off so I drove up on the grass, parked my car and cussed everyone out in the office. These things are REALLY all true. I'm in NO WAY proud of them. They actually scare me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I superglued coffee cups all over my bosses walls in his office. Was a spur of the moment thought after he complained at a briefing about staff leaving cups lying around. So I decided to glue them to his wall instead.
Needless to say I don't work there anymore. |
