So I'm back to taking the Latuda and I'm hoping desperately that it will bring me back to some level of stability that I can manage. I've been reading the crazymeds.com site and am encouraged by what he has to say about them for long-term mood stability usage.
There is a stigma attached to something labled "antipsychotic" that just wouldn't let me think it could be a good thing to take. There is also the cost, but I figure I'll leap that hurdle when I get to it. My doc has given me lots of samples so far and I think she can give me more after that. I've asked before but was wondering if you all could give me more feedback on this drug and how it has or has not helped you.

I personally didn't like Latuda much. It didn't work all that well and was super hard on my stomach (I puked 1-2x per week due to not having enough food in my stomach). When I came home from school and switched pdocs again, I asked to be taken off it, and I went back to Seroquel which I have been back on very happily since the end of last June. I also became manic in the time I was on it, and while I can't say for sure that it was from being on Latuda since I switched ADs at the same time, I believe that it happened because of the Latuda since only one AD (Zoloft) has ever made me manic, and that was before my BP Dx so it was the only med I was on at the time, and I have happily been back on that for almost a year as well.

I've only been on it for a week so far (20mg daily) but today I start taking 40mg daily. I completely understand how you feel. I'm really hoping it helps as well. I've read a lot of really good things about it. So far I haven't noticed that much (Maybe a small amount of improvement). But I'll see how 40mg works. How much are you taking? Apparently you can go higher then 40mgs daily so if that doesn't work then there's always increasing the dose. If I have any good results I'll share it with ya.
Money is also a huge factor as well... I'm in the same boat as you on that as well. it's crazy how expensive APs can get... I mean really, we have enough problems as it is... Stay strong! You're not alone.

I am on 80mg day and it has been a lifesaver for me. Everyone responds differently to different medications.

You absolutely must have at least 350 calories of food when you take it or you will get the stomach problems. I've been taking it with dinner so it's easier to remember and so I don't eat before bedtime. I'm actually doing better with food since I started on it because I know I'll be eating at least 350 calories at that time. So I'm starting to lose weight on it! My daughter is on Latuda also and has lost 70 lbs that she gained on seriqual.
It helped control the mixed symptoms I was having, it was great for me.

I am finding myself just not knowing what to do with myself. Like hanging with my son today. Not a problem right?? I feel like I don't know what to do.... Felt like this a lot lately but it's not comfortable or typical...

I had a bad involuntary reaction to Latuda. My eyes would close shut and I couldn't see. Constantly blinking. My doctor said it was a neurological effect. I asked to be taken off and after six weeks my eyes stopped blinking.

My daughter has BP as well. Latuda is the latest mood stabilizer she's been on and swears by it. I was on Lithium for years and just destroyed me physically and I refuse to go back on it. I truly need a mood stabilizer and am thinking seriously about trying Latuda. Can't hurt.
I've heard that in terms of psych drugs if a family member is on something and it's effective than usually it will work for the other family member

It's just too expensive. No point starting something I can't afford to maintain.

I have just recently started taking Latuda. At first I started to feel better. Then as I increased the dosage higher, I began to feel terrible anxiety. The anxiety triggered my depression to go deeper, then I developed suicidal feelings again. I ended up in the hospital. Now I am out of the hospital, and have been able to get an Rx. for Lorazepam, but it just makes me sleep. My Pdoc is on vacation and I don't see her again until 6/2. I will discuss all these problems with her to see if I will stay on Latuda. Did it ever cause feelings of anxiety for you?
