Just wondering.... I like to think I am pretty self-aware but in the past I found myself confusing a restless hypomania for depression (which is a problem when I am my own treatment provider hah).

How do you know if you are heading to an episode? How do you prevent it from getting worse? (and is sometimes just better to maybe wing it than mess up with various remedies?)

Why not moodcharting? It's a pretty good way to take an objective look at what's going on.

I have a standard baseline a list of stable things .. so daily I just self ground myself and click off from my list and go about my day .. takes me a total of 2 minutes to check in where I am at .

Least thats what works for me.

The problem for me with mood-charting, is that I often feel "bad" when I'm depressed, and I feel "bad" when I'm manic.

For me, charting sleep patterns works better.
9+ hours...depressed,
7 or less hours... Hypomanic
4 or less hours...psychotic mania coming!

I got bored with mood charting. I use my sleep patterns. If I start not being able to sleep, I know hypomania is on the way. If I'm sleeping the day away, I know I'd better kick in the plan for depression. Mixed episodes? Major irritability.

Mixed episodes are the worst, because it's so unclear how to treat it. I am hoping the Lamictal does it for me, but the doc says it's possible I'll have to add another med in with it.

Yeah not sure what can be really done about mixed episodes, I don't get too many of them fortunatelly.

I've heard from 3 successive shrinks that mixed episodes are difficult to treat with meds. None of them ever changed mine to treat one. I basically isolate till it passes.

I pretty much mix herbal stimulants and tranqs.... and my homemade suprisingly potent SJW tincture, which I am not taking all the time, just when I need to get myself out of depressive episode (it does to take few days to work, but it does work). My despite what all herbaries say about SJW's sedative properties... it doesn't do that to me. I find it quite stimulating.

So I need to learn to observe myself in the best ways I can for this to work.

App for Bipolar Disorder Being Tested ? WebMD

Thought this was interesting...they are developing an app to check for voices changes like pressured speech....I'm wondering if you might be able to just do this manually by recording a specific passage everyday and just recording the time it takes to read it...
