As the daytime hours get longer, sleep is not as restful, which doesn't help mania. Then in the fall when the daytime hours get shorter, sleep gets much more restful and helps amplify depression.

Does that make sense? Anyone else ever notice or have similar experience?

There's statistically more people suffering depression in winter.

In Oz I know when the suns out I tend to make myself go outside, its warmer and easier to get motivated...and even on bad day I can usually get motivated ( read grumpy or in right mood to clean tidy or create) by mid afternoon. That usually means I want to just keep going till after dark or longer cause it becomes a adrenaline rush.

In winter its cold dark wet and makes you want to curl up and sleep in front heater, let alone work. I hate winters here , but I hate the heat too...so for me spring and autumn are my most stable times year. .

That absolutely makes total sense. I have always suffered insomnia in spring time & summer, it's worse in spring. Also, being hyper/manic. I don't suffer depression as much as manias but I do slow down in winter & actually like winter better due to this. I've read a lot of studies & books about bipolar disorder & this is a common thing---the changes in moods depending on seasons.

I'm a slave to seasons. Manic in early summer and early fall, depressed in late summer and early winter, and bat-crap crazy in the spring.

I am now having that experience of insomnia in spring and summer and too much sleep in winter. As soon as the days got longer I got anxious. Didn't realize so many people had same issues.
