Does anyone ever get hypersensitive to the noise, light and sound all around them? Smells sometimes make me almost vomit, and noise hurts my ears and brain so much

I get this way frequently. Soft noises sound like they are pounding on my head. Light is painful in my eyes. Smells, UGH. Add on to that hypersensitive to touch too. I can't stand to be touched, it's feels anywhere between physically uncomfortable to painful. Crowded areas are hard for me to be in because there is so much input it overwhelms me.

I know what that's like. It's common in bipolar people, especially during mood episodes. The senses are heightened to a point where things that don't normally register in our brains, become noxious and distressing to us. I can get extremely irritable if the TV sound is too loud, if there's a clothing tag rubbing against my neck (although I usually remove them for this reason), if my husband's model paints are open. When I'm not in an episode, none of this bothers me.

The more stressed I am the more sensitive I am, particularly to noise and touch. When I was psychotic, people's voices felt like knives in my brain. When I am irritable I can't stand noise or to be touched and that comes with both ends of the spectrum. It's unfortunate bc I have a young son who doesn't understand so I really have to reel myself in at times so I don't upset him. It's not his fault mommy doesn't want a hug.
