I've not been able to get a grip on my treatment. When I'm at the therapist, I think I usually just ramble. My anxiety/stress of waiting for ssdi hearing and/or trying to find a job is totally pushing me over the limits. I had another very near mishap yesterday. I've asked my clinic about anxiety meds, but they don't prescribe anything. I was told to take Benadryl.

Basically, I'm 7 months into this therapy and meds, and nothing is any better for me.

I'm at my wits end with myself and I'm burned out on life.

What do you want to fix?
Have you got cleared to work?
Have you gone to vocational rehab?
What do you do in therapy?
Have you thought of a new therapist and Dr?

I want to fix my mind.
Vocational Rehab kicked me out because of being unstable.
Clinic I'm going to is the only clinic free for me to use.
What does cleared to work mean?

What does cleared to work mean? if asked will your therapist say that you can work? Have you applied for assistance?

. I've asked my clinic about anxiety meds, but they don't prescribe anything. I was told to take Benadryl. Have you tried melitonin? They may have you down as drug seeking.

Do you mind me asking what you want from therapy and what meds your on?

How did you cope before 7 months ago?

Any chance of incorporating those strategies or improving them to suit your current needs?

This is assuming you didn't suddenly become bipolar overnight and have previously managed to somehow work around it, or compensate for it...

Meds can and do help, well the right ones anyway, wrong ones just fruck you over even worse. But thing is, meds can't do all the work for you, coping skills are needed with or without meds in order to manage effectively.

Instead of attending sessions where you're just rambling while your T listens, (from your post this is obviously not really beneficial)... I suggest setting goals for therapy. Discuss what you would like to achieve in therapy and how to work towards that. Allow your T to guide you in employing healthy coping skills.

I mean rambling sessions can be cathartic, but I for 1 personally cannot set aside an hour a week just to do so. To me that would be a gross waste of my time as I have friends who listen to all my bullshyt without a set appointment. So I need my T to actually serve a purpose beyond borrowing me his ears...

I don't know what my therapist would say. All I know is back in March and I started getting spastic, I mentioned to him I was going to look for a job. He definitely recommended a part time job so employer could see if I was a good fit. I told him a negative of not "being a good fit" would not bode well with my mind right now.

I'm an ole blue collar guy. Show up, do your job. Personality didn't matter much.

valerian root is suppose to help with anxiety. Ask about gabapentin (it's not a benzo, so not abuse potential so they might be more willing to prescribe it....) I am on gaba. It's a HUGE help, but does help some. I am a lower dose though...so....

I was prescribed gabapentin a year ago for my deg. arthur. for eroded disc/hip/sciatica. Tylenol worked better so I did not take them all and did not go back to dr. After a few days of a lot of pain, Friday evening I took 5. I slept great, got up, got bored and raging and I almost created a disaster.

hmm....are you sure the gaba did that? or was it just coincidence? Maybe 5 after not taking any for a while wasn't a good call?

It was probably skipping 2 does on my bipolar meds. I think I went into a little rage mode.

IMO herbs don't work long term. They might help a little for a limitless while but long term you need real meds from a Dr and the 2 don't mix when you have BP. That was my first diagnoses and what every dr told me.

Set a goal every day for everything, including Therapy.

Getting the paperwork done for assistance is hard, takes time, but it's a PRIORITY for success

List of priorities
1. You
* bed by 1am (lay down even if you can't sleep)
* up by 10 am
* shower
* take meds

2. House
* make your bed
* clean your room
* clean your kitchen

3. Community
* get out of your house daily ( even if its to the library)
* volunteer ( it helps you feel better about yourself)

All the herbs I have come across are much too mild, like St. Johns Wort, to be of any practical use.
