Hello guys

Like my thread tells you I am really sorry if I am asking pretty much the same questions but I do need an answer. I think I wrote it couple of times but I want to know, what would Abilify actually do to my Lamictal? I mean where is the point of adding Abilify?

A Lot of informations are available on internet, but I still don't quite get it. In my case I am experiencing numbness...and no emotions what so ever...

I read Abilify is and AD, anti-psychotic and a mood stabilizer. IS it a "safe" pill? Can it give me back my life energy?

It's so scary before, practicly all my life, I was feeling everything too much. Sasdness, happiness...love...hate....my emotions were always SOOOO STRONG and now I feel horrible cus for the first time in my life I DON'T FEEL ANYTHING. And also...I feel horrible cus I'll have to take more pills to feel something.

Should I be afraid? I need some advice and some positive perspective.

You have to talk to your doctor. Medications effect everyone differently. It wouldn't be fair to give our opinion based on our own experiences when it comes to meds. Everyone's different.

You are right, I just wanted to know if someone knows what this Abilify is for? I mean there are SO many info on the net that I'm confused.

If anyone knows on a more objective way what is Abilify helpful for? I also heard that it helps Lamictal to "kick in" on a stronger base.

Hugs to you all*

Abilify was added to both my husband and sons lamictal. With my son it stopped his night meltdowns. With my husband it made him feel "human".

your doctor should have a specific reason for prescribing you abilify, it would be best to ask him what he expects the medicine to do for you

there is some information on the medicine at this nami link NAMI | Untitled Document

There are many ways abilify works. You are right in the fact that it makes the lamictal work better. I tried abilify but I felt too numb on it so my pdoc prescribed geodon. Again like everyone has said talk to yr provider about how it makes you feel. We can't really give med advice but we do care. :-) good luck

I definitely agree with other posters that you should talk to your doctor as to why s/he thinks this is a good combination for you.

That said, my two cents: Abilify isn't really classed as an antidepressant by itself. When taken for depression, it is supposed to "help" your antidepressants "kick in", as you said. This is only when taken at a low dose. It's used as an antipsychotic at higher doses.

I took it for a while. It really helped boost my energy and helped me show up for things. Unfortunately, it stopped working after about a year.

It also has some scary side effects. If you are on this medication, you should have your liver enzymes and your blood sugar monitored. Less scary, but inconvenient, is weight gain.

Lamictal isn't an antidepressant either. It's a mood stabilizer. I'm kind of curious why your doctor thinks this is a good combination for you.

Since all meds effect everyone differently .. Many times a Pdoc kinda tosses certain meds at a patient to see what " sticks" and helps you lead a more stable life . " most " people go through many combos of meds to find something that works the best for them.

Its a trial and error process mostly ..

Good luck and have some faith that things will improve .

Guys first of all love you so much for your help and support. If it weren't for you I'd be totally lost in this bi-polar spectrum. Since pdoc's don't always take enough time to listen to us, sharing experiencings here on forum is very helpful.

THANK YOU once again from the bottom of my heart

Yes, you are all right. I mean of course my pdoc has a reason why she thinks it'll help. The thing is two pdoc's (mine and the one that'll check me up soon) were talking about adding Abilify, they were both quite unsure and thinking would this be good for me or not. The thing I didn't do was I didn't ask WHY I need Abilify. The reason for that is that we decided first I'll just increase Lamictal.

Now when my pdoc appointment is getting close, I will of course ask what she expect Abilify will to for me. I presume they want to stop my little hypomanic episodes I told them about. But since my last visit none of that kinnda feelings happend. I just feel less and less connected to the world, I mean I am more stable, but I am not experiencing any emotions.

Of course nobody really sees it. My family and BF only see I look better (physically), but my mind is....FLAT. That's why I asked if maybe, just maybe, Abilify will boost some emotional energy....cus if I didn't want to feel that much before, I am suffering now as well, not feeling anything. I went from one extreme to another. Sure, feeling too much is SOOO exhausting, but feeling nothing...well....where is the point in living then?

I use to love travels, now I have no desire for them. I am also scared I'll get anxiety on them. I used to love spend time with my BF, now I just simply don't care. Not to mention I have no desire for sex, since there are no feelings (from my side) towards my BF.

So as you can see, I am not in a good situation. I am more stable...maybe too much.

BIG HUG TO EVERYONE***

Also, I heard for Lamictal that it's a "safe healthy med" but I think Abilify is quite strong and causes long term side effects, specially if your a female... :/
