I have found that about 200mg of caffeine can induce hypomania for me. The dose at which tolerance develops varies between individuals but on average is about 400mg per day. An eight ounce cup of coffee is about 100mg. Adolescents and children have different needs which should be taken under consideration, one of which is developing an addictive habit.
Caffeine Addiction is No Joke for Some | Psych Central News Caffeine addiction - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Caffeine withdrawal is unpleasant, and that is one reason why individuals who have developed a tolerance to caffeine require a cup in the morning to feel alert. It can take up to two weeks for withdrawal symptoms to pass. I'd recommend speaking about this with a psychiatrist. |

I drink a pot and a half of coffee a day. Sure I get a little edgey, panic attack or two and the occasional chest pains, but it tastes good and keeps me awake.

I also learnt that it was not just a coffee habit, but part of my routine, get up, get dressed, have my coffee...now I drink decaf green tea, and I can keep my routine (hope that makes sense)

I don't like coffee and wouldn't take caffeine pills, but I enjoy the very occasional caffeinated soda if I'm feeling dead on my feet and have to get something done/go to work/school. If I just drink it and I'm not dead tired it makes me feel terrible. Wired and like my skin is crawling, and my anxiety shoots through the roof and I can't stop thinking terrible things are going to happen and I shake like crazy. Also happens from excedrin, which I need a couple times a year for migraines.

I used to drink 2-3 pots of coffee/day. It was not a problem until I became perimenopausal and developed insomnia and had to cut back on caffeine.
I agree with others who suggest she drink her caffeine rather than use caffeine pills. It is possible to overdose more easily using the pills than it is if she is only drinking coffee.

Since going back on seroquel I have been drinking a to go cup of coffee in the a.m. and rarely a soda, my love affair is with tea. I'll drink some anytime, some I drink are non caffeinated others are. But I drink these beverages to kick my seroquel hangover I sometimes get on the mornings. Haven't noticed much trouble though the NP I saw a few weeks ago told me I should avoid it. I have to drive to work early in the morning so I need something to counter act the hangover.
