My pdoc ceased my Fluoxetine from 20 -0mg two days ago. He didn't tell me the nurses just stopped giving it to me - I am an inpatient at the moment. First, I am pissed that my doc didn't discuss it with me and secondly it may explain why I have been climbing the walls in the last few days. Agitation and irritability through the roof. I have talked to the nurses about this but the doctor made no notes about it and he is on leave for the next three days so no-one can ask him.

What I really want to know is what others have experienced when stopping taking their AD med abruptly? I was agitated and irritable before the med change but I am much more so since. I also have tightness in my chest and a faster than normal heartrate; and hoe long will these symptoms last? Thanks!

I did not have any symptoms, but I stopped 10 mg, so that was easier.

You are on an extremely high dose of Olanzapine, so agitation and irritability should hae been controlled by now, but they are not, so it is worrisome indeed.

tightness in the chest is a serious symptom. I do not know what it might be attributable to, but I would definitely report to the nursing station. Also, if they are not doing it routinely, ask them to monitor your blood pressure and pulse several times a day.

Prozac has a long half life so you shouldn't really have many - if any - withdrawal symptoms

Thanks. My obs (Blood pressure etc) are being done regularly and my resting heart rate is fast for me (90 instead of 60) but I am otherwise ok physically. The tightness in my chest feels panic related and I had a chest x-ray and full medical recently prior to commencing ECT so I think my heart is ok. I have come off AD's suddenly before and I think it felt like this but it was long ago and I cannot remember clearly. The Olanzepine should have me chilled esp with the clonanzepam but I am still climbing the walls. This seems to be one of those wait and see things. Only real problem is my suicidal ideation has gone through the roof and that is a worry, but I will keep the nurses in the loop about that.

I dropped my prozac from 40 to 20 a few weeks ago and haven't been right. I know about the long half life etc. but it makes me wonder if I should go back to 40- maybe I really need it.

Keep talking to the nurses

I took it years and years ago and just quit taking it .. Never had a problem.. Seems I have never had a problem just up and quitting a med of any kind cold turkey.

I would imagine that sitting down with the Doctor and explaining how you would like to be part of your treatment decisions in the future would be priority # 1 .

Take care ..I hope your feeling better soon
