Hi! I was wondering if anyone else has ever noticed a BIG change in there bipolar cycle from the weather or the seasons. And, if anyone has found something to counteract the effects. Please, no meds, only vitamins or rituals. Thanx!

Hi sleep123,

welcome to psychcentral. For the past several years, I have noticed a worsening of my depressive symptoms in the winter. I have considered getting those SADD(seasonal affective disorder)lights, but haven't yet and so far have only taken meds for my bipolar disorder. I was reading the MSN message boards yesterday and there was a thread entitled "how do you manage your bipolar disorder" and several posters stated they used only "natural" remedies. I think L-tyrosine which you can find in health stores was mentioned several times. You may want to check out that thread. I hope you find something that helps.

I definitely have these kinds of problems. As far as "natural" remedies, there are three that have been shown to have a beneficial effect on mood: Omega-3s, light therapy, and exercise. Of all of them, exercise gives the best results.
