I am thinking that I need to go back into therapy and try something different. I had psychotherapy 6 years ago for a year, have had counselling several times since then, went to a psychotherapist whom I didn't really like last year (after my BP diagnosis).....so now am stuck as to who would be the best professional to see. A psychologist or just a counsellor? I need help with ironing out my anxiety issues and depression and just offload a lot of crap basically.
Anyone with any advice? Thanks |

Can you ask your psychiatrist who he or she would suggest?
Most cases, pdocs only deal with medication monitoring/changes. Years ago a pdoc would do both meds and talk therapy, but so many have seperated from that, leading patients to 2 seperate professionals to see. From personal experience(s), I prefer talking with a psychologist vs a licensed social worker (counselar) when a need for "talk therapy" is necessary in adjunct to pdoc's meds. and appt. co-ordinations. This is only my very own opinion, and has not been stated to offend anyone. I wish you lots of luck to a quick, positive outcome.

I think that therapy with a psychologist is a necessary ingrediant in the treatment of bipolar...definitely go for it.
