I am on Lamictal and Risperidone and in a depression. I have noticed substantial memory loss as well as anhedonia.

I am not sure how much the memory loss is due to the medicine and how much is due to bipolar. However, I am wondering if any of you feel minimum cognition loss, if any, and if so what are you taking?

Who feels like their normal smart selves?

I was diagnosed in November of this year and was put on Lamictal
and Seroquel. I've been experiencing the same symptoms you are
having. My short term memory and congnition hasn't been that great
for a long time now though. I'm pretty sure a lot of it is due to the
Bipolar. The meds, for me, seem to make it worse.

I hope the meds really start working for you soon! The depression is
the worst part.. Here's to hoping, right?!

I've been on Lamictal for 7-8 years and noticed some problems with my memory, focus, multi-tasking, etc. In July my pdoc put me back on Seroquel and I was freaking out about weight because I had lost a ton when I came off of Seroquel so he put me on Topamax (got up to 100mg). Things got really bad. What I could accomplish at work was like half of what I use to, I couldn't remember conversations with my husband. So a week ago I saw my pdoc and I was like what the heck is going on? Well if, and I say if I understood him right, BP is like epilepsy we are constantly having seizures without the physical affects. So basically a ton of activity, so for me I cannot sleep. Anyways, lamictal and topamax are anti-convulsants and therefore these are the effects that these medicines have. So I'm being weaned off of the topamax, can't do it anymore. I'm going to stay on the Lamictal and the Seroquel. I'm crossing my fingers I don't gain any weight, especially since he had to up the Seroquel another 100 mg so now I'm on 400 mg.

I go through periods of time where I appear to exhibit signs of oncoming dementia. This can go on for over a year. I have not been able to determine if this is due to meds or a "side effect" of my BP MI. Right now I am much better. I am even remembering details of my past that I have not been able to in many years until now.

PS: if this turns out to be actual early onset dementia...well...I guess I should not be looking for more trouble in my life. This would just give me more to stress out about.

My psychiatrist specifically targets my Lamictal as the cause of what he calls "word loss". This was especially frustrating when I was in school (and when trying to win arguments with my husband . I've been off the Lamictal for a good eight months and sure enough words are coming to me at a more normal speed. Luckily though, I'm taking other meds that make up for not taking the lamictal.
