... if I make one single post. I have to prep for the toughest interview so far in my life. Logging off until Wed. I do not have high chances of passing the interview, but it should be an awesome experience that will prepare me for future interviews with more realistic chances of winning.

I'm back... things are not that simple. I am underslept (5 hours instead of 8) and I have reached my limit on what I can productively do. Thanks for all the good wishes!!! Speaking of nerves, Venus... I told them that my availability is Tue-Fri in the AM. I specifically said AM because I get anxiety attacks ONLY in the PM. Of course I did not want an anxiety attack during an interview.

Well, they scheduled me for 1-5PM. That means that I am at risk. That also means that I will skip the weekly staff meeting at my current job, which is not good. But I did not dare raise a voice. So now I have to deal with a PM interview, and my question is whether to rely on adrenaline taking care of anxiety or taking maybe half a pill of Klonopin ahead of time? I tried taking one quarter of a pill of Klonopin on Friday just to make sure it does not make me sleepy; it did not. I basically felt no effect. Maybe I should try taking half a pill tomorrow to make sure THAT does not make me sleepy, and then decide. I will have to think on my feet, and I want to make sure that Klonopin does not blunt cognitive abilities; does anyone know? I am sure anxiety does not help cognitive abilities, so I need a good balance here.

It will be a 4-hour long interview. I will take a 4-glass bottle of Vitalyte with me to keep my mind sharp (dehydration affects thinking). And I will exercise in the morning - using the fact that the interview is in the PM - supposedly that helps cognitive abilities afterwards.

But the main thing is to get enough sleep. That is more important than all the reading I have been doing...

Wow, even my firmware engineering interviews weren't that tough......sounds like a highly competitive position.

Definitely get enough sleep. I found that sleep effects blood pressure, nerves, & definitely my ability to think clearly......focus on your sleep. If you have it for the position....you already have it so I wouldn't be as worried about anything other than keeping your mind as sharp as possible. I don't know about you, but when I exercise in the morning, it causes me to be more tired by the time afternoon hits....but that could be because I'm getting OLD.

I would also suggest eating a good well rounded breakfast with protein....but not a big lunch...maybe a small snack to keep your stomach from growling....but I know that a large lunch also makes me tired & my brain not function at top quality.

Good luck with the interview.......

Hey, with this economy, interviewing & job hunting is definitely tough. I remember when every job I interviewed for I got an offer from & I could take my choice......however around 1995, the aerospace industry in California took a nose dive & I couldn't even get one job offer......but I ended up having a complete break down at the end of working for the company I had been at for 10 years total between being in a position I hated & the Northridge earthquake.

Positions aren't that easy to come by & the competition is great.....one never knows how an interview will turn out any more....all you can do is the best you can & do nothing to mess up the interview & hope for the best if you have given it your best......accept what ever happens after that point with no blame to self if outcome is not what you hoped for.....but sometimes at the interview, one realized the job, company, or position isn't a good match either.......interview can go just as easily that way as the other in reality.

I too remember that (in a different industry).

It was a different economy and, remember, we were younger.

I went to bed at 9:45PM and tossed and turned until about 11PM, afraid that Temazepam stopped working. But it worked. I had very shallow sleep, awakening many times, and for too long - ultimately over 11 hours (3 hours extra and last night I had a 3 hour deficit having slept for 5 hours, so think it was to compensate). I do not feel refreshed after such sleep, but it still beats how I felt being underslept. Hopefully tonight I will have regular sleep and tomorrow as well, and then will be able to present myself in the best light during the interview. Sleep is just so important for me - I understand that it is more important than any of the research articles on the subject matter that I was reading yesterday, although I did find really good to the point articles.

LOL.....Yes, I keep having to remind myself of that....my brain doesn't think so, but my body definitely does & everyone else knows it also. I seem to be the only one that keeps having to remind myself.

Decided against Klonopin. Adrenaline should do the trick.

Things are not good, underslept again. Woke up twice during the night, quietly went for a walk, had more sleep after the walks, am going to go to work now. Still, not as much sleep as necessary and very fragmented.

Now worried that next night, the critical one, would be the same. And of course the more I worry, the worse I sleep, so it is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

May rethink Klonopin, because I have an inkling that I get more anxiety when underslept.
