Every night I get agitated and pace for 2-5 hours until someone or something is able to break the agitation , I try to listen to music that's fast paced to try to break the spell but nothing's fast enough and slow music just seems to agitate me even more as does sitting still? Any Suggestions?

I've been in states like that before, and it's not fun. Are you on any meds? It's possible it could be a side effect. Either way, it's worth seeing a doctor about, if you haven't already.
For me, hot showers or baths would help. (Although if you're having a rapid heart rate, a hot bath probably isn't the best idea.) I would also just go for long, pointless walks. Making and having a cup of chamomile tea would also help a little. Hang in there! ![]()

I just got out of agitation. It helped me to listen to light hearted music, hot herbal tea sweetened with honey, a hard piece of candy to suck on and take notice of how it tastes and such. AND the kicker.....
I wouldn't literally just shake and move violently in one spot to get that inner energy out. example...running in place. I also started taking Risperdal and with doing all of that I have found relief. I hope youre feeling better soon! |

I do this too, my pdoc seems to think its a trait of OCD because I do it every day for several hours at the same time though I do have other symptoms as well such as obsessions and intrusive thoughts. I'm not sure if its a separate issue or not, but I started taking Paxil for it. The first few days were great and I didn't pace at all, now it seems like it wears off everyday around 3pm (I take it at 8 pm) and I get really agitated and restless. Good luck, I hope you find something to help you

What is your mood like when you are pacing? When I am in mixed states I pace a lot and I am in a very dark mood. It is truly awful so I feel for you. For me the only thing that calms me down enough is Zyprexa (Olanzapine). No CBT type technique or activity helps when I am really bad.

I had it as a side effect of Risperdal combined with extreme psychologically traumatic state. Luckily it has not returned.
If you do it for that long, can you go swimming in the pool instead? On Amazon you can buy a waterproof ipod shuffle for $99 and swim listening to music. Water would be more relaxing and grounding than air for you, and, you would get tired faster. |

It's a horrible place to be in. So uncomfortable.
Usually when Im like that I need a major med overhaul. I've got a few relaxation apps on my iphone that I can listen to with headphones in my ears. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. Here's hoping you get some relief soon. Take care. |

That happened to me when they put me on Geodon. But then my doc prescribed Cogentin and it stopped. Cogentin is an anti-seizure medication and it helped my whole body relax. The change was amazing. No more pacing or akathisia. Good luck to you. I hope you find something to help.

When I go dysphorically manic I get the same symptom, like I am so agitated I cannot sit still. I couldn't stop it until my pdoc prescribed Rivtoril (Another name for Klonopin just incase anyone was wondering). It helps me tremendously even at just a small dose of about .5-1 mg, I think maybe because it acts as a muscle-relaxant.
