Hi all, I have just recently been diagnsoed as Bipolar I after a long term diagnosis of major depression.

Now I have been diagnosed I can see everything alot clearer - explains alot of the things that have happened in my life: overspending, manic type behaviour, high agitation, high anxiety etc etc.

It's a relief to finally know what's been happening.

because I also suffer from a condition (vocal cord disorder) called spasmodic dysphonia, my doc has put me on gabapentin (neurontin) as it helps my voice incredibly and is seeming to 9so far) keep me very balanced. I also take 20 mg prozac and 1mg clonazepam per day.

Anyone else tried gabapentin?

Anyway, ti's good to be here, can't wait to learn more about how to "deal" with all of this, epecially at work!

Cheers

Cashy

(used the cashregister cause this is like a ka-ching moment for me!!)

Seems I was mistaking high anxiety and agitation for depression, and manic episodes for normality - go figure!

Welcome to PC cashy. New here, new to Bipolar

I have never taken neurontin. Each of us reacts differently to meds and it comes down to whatever works. I am glad you found yours so quickly.

This is a great forum so don't be shy aobut posting. Take care.

hey I am also new to the whole BP thing. Things did start making sense the more I researched what bipolar really is.Sometimes I think I am still in denial that anything is really wrong. I was diagnosed with severe depression at first and anxiety. None of those meds worked they seemed to make me feel worse. Now I am on 1200mg lithium, 150mg trazodone and 3mg xanax a day. Seems to be working ok. Still have my ups and downs but they don't seem to be as severe as they were. Some days can still get quite "messy' so to speak and I still have a lot of questions as to if what I feel is "normal". I have read some postings that have actually helped. Never tried the gabapentin though. Good Luck!
