I fall asleep great but wake up every one-two hours all night long. This has been going on for almost three years, and I'm POSITIVE it's what's made my MI so bad. The doc at the sleep center prescribed me Ambien yesterday, and it didn't make a bit of difference. :-(

I'm so frustrated. I feel like if I could just sleep, it would be so much easier to get my moods under control. At the end of my rope right now. :-(

I did this for years! I truly believe it took time off my life. I'm sleeping well with Seroquel, now I sleep like 10 hours. At first it was so strange to sleep that much. Now my body thanks me. I'm a little foggy in the morning, but coffee combats it pretty well. I hope you find something that works for you!

I wonder if I should look into that. I'm on Lamictal and Abilify now. Luckily my Pdoc sees me next week!

I tried Trazadone years ago. Even at 500mg it didn't do the trick. :-(

Sleep apnea can lead to poor sleep. So can using too much stimulants, like an amphetimine. I'd imagine light sources at night, especially in the bedroom, could also contribute.

I would suggest getting off of any stimulants and trying dark therapy alongside some time release melatonin for two to four weeks. If that doesn't help consider getting a sleep study done. Strangely enough, years ago I was on Abilify and it caused a lot of weight gain, which led to developing sleep apnea that went untreated for years until I had a sleep study done.

I've had two sleep studies done, sleep in a dark, cool room, and use a CPAP machine. I no longer drink caffeine. Melatonin doesn't work either. :-(

Thanks for the suggestions, though!

I take 400mg of Seroquel and like Mrs. mania I sleep ten hours and I have a tiny bit of caffeine to come out of it in the morning. The sleep is the greatest. There are some issues with Seroquel though. I came off it last March because it caused me to be pre-diabetic and my triglycerides went sky high. I went instantly into a mixed episode. There are some people that gain weight. When I came off it I dropped 30 lbs. I tried other APs, long story ended up back on Seroquel, have to be. My weight has maintained. I take Metformin for the pre-diabetes and fish oil to keep my triglycerides down. This seems to be the only med that keeps me close to stable and I can sleep. If I didn't take it I would only sleep 2-3 hours a night.

The weight gain sounds scary! Well, the rest does, too, but hey I'm a chick. Lol Anyway, I'll talk to my pdoc on Friday and ask her about Seroquel. Thanks!

I can so relate to this. I've been a chronic insomniac since I was a child. If it weren't for the trazadone I'm taking I wouldn't sleep much at all(I'm just glad I finally found something that works for me, I went through so many different medications to find something to help me sleep). I know how seriously frustrating it is when you just can't sleep no matter what you do.

Seroquel is a great medication for sleep, but you do have to watch out for weight gain. Seroquel helped keep my sleep cycles regular for a long time, but I had to come off the drug because I was pre-diabetic I had gotten so overweight. If it weren't for the weight gain I would still be taking it because not only did it help my sleep it stabilized my moods. But just because some people have gained weight on it doesn't mean everyone will, I really encourage you to try it and see how it goes.

I wish you the best of luck resolving this, seriously I know how horrible it is when you just can't sleep.

I take 300mg of Seroquel for sleep. Without it I have insomnia and it doesn't go away. I have gone without sleep for days when I ran out of the Seroquel. So I feel your pain.

Ya, the waking up all night long is a problem. I've been on ambien 20mg 1 or 2 tabs. I also take Benadryl and melatonin, yes they know. For a while this was working but now I'm back to waking up after a couple hours and unable to get back to sleep. This is making me iritatable and pissed off at small stuff... Maybe I'll look into the CR version of ambien. Can't take trazadone becouse it's an AD and seriqual gives me really bad leg cramps, but boy do I sleep.
Wish I was a robot or something and could just plug into a socket for 8 hours or so to restore the batteries.

I like the robot analogy. :-)
