I have felt this way before but I used to fall back on drugs or alcohol and have since stopped both. I was only diagnosed about 6 months ago so I don't know all the terminology or how to describe the state I'm in but I know I need help. I was put on Depakote ER, from 1000, 1500, then 2000mg until I felt like it was making me feel worse then I did before and I stopped going to the pysch which now know was a mistake. She didn't seem to care one way or the other when I was going and I felt very unimportant to her. I don't know how I feel. It's so hard to describe any of this for me, so frustrating. Right now, I'm super low and confused and hopeless. I know I need treatment and to be medicated but I also have to function. Where do you start when looking for a pysch who wont just ask how you feel and give you script and on to the next sucker? Where do I start?

I have been through the same battle. I have tried 14 different meds. I found lithium works the best. i also struggled to find the fight doctors and now have an excellent psychiatrist and therapist. Since meds are not working, and I had to do a 10-day stay in the psych ward, I am considering ECT. I guess to be short and sweet, this diagnosis sucks and is a long battle. Hang in there, it isn't always horrible.

Sound like you are in a tough place. I agree with tlaira, it can take many different psychiatrists and med chnages to find the ones that suit you. Are you seeing a therapist. they are instrumental to your treatment. Hang in there with the right treatment you can find some peace.

I use a therapist to talk to and a pyschiatrist to prescribe meds. Look at your list of providers that take your insurance and just start making phone calls. Sometimes the receptionist will tell you what their provider 's style is and what. they're good at and what they're lacking. Keep trying, you're doing a good job: )
