Can buspar make me manic? I don't have bipolar but I had a manic reaction to an ssri I think. I'm so worried. Can't stop the anxiety. Is it safe for people with bipolar? I hate meds.

I'm bipolar and I am on Buspar. I started yesterday. So far I haven't had a manic episode with it. I had a manic episode with Paxil. Paxil made my moods crazy. I heard good reviews about Buspar.

Hi tangerine-I am taking Buspar as well-it's an anti anxiety med not an SSRI-haven't had any mania issues from it so far-If it's too late to get in touch with your pdoc call your pharmacist. Hope things settle down & you feel better soon.

I started the Buspar after a lot of thought & discussion over 2 sessions with my pdoc-I had a terrible experience with psych meds in the past which were prescribed by a regular MD. I have multiple issues (as you can see ) & currently I take Prozac, Depakote & Buspar with Propranolol & Ambien as needed. I'm doing really well so far & see a tdoc weekly. If you're not comfortable taking it then I would recommend chatting up your pdoc or pharmacist & there are many online med forums where people rate their symptoms & how the meds affect them. Hope that helps

Buspar is an anti-anxiety drug but it caused me to be more anxious, but I've not heard of it causing mania, it didn't for me and ADs do.

Get in touch with your Pdoc and explain your fear of Mania and see if maybe you could try something else or maybe he/she will reassure you that they feel the medication will help you.

Good luck

If anything it made me tired, definitely not manic.

It gave me nightmares. Does it do this for anyone else? At least with these I know they don't mean anything. Does it eventually go away?
