I usually take 1200 which is a really high dose. To combat my severe mania of late my dr increased my dose temporarily to 1600 mg. I don't think this is for long, maybe just a few days. But amazingly enough it isn't making me sleepy or anything else except my stomach is upset. And because it is such a high dose about the only thing I can find online is people trying to figure out what a harmful dose is.

Just curious if anyone has taken this much and if it has worked. I am supposed to take valium as well and will do that soon but keep hoping to feel a little more sleepy first since valium has been useless lately. I do feel a little different, sort of like I'm a step back from my manic brain. It's still running full speed but I'm not quite there with it. I don't know how to make that make sense. Definitely it is causing more upset stomach than anything, which also might be from being so manic that I've not eaten a ton today.

Thanks in advance.

Nope, most I ever agreed to take was 400mg years ago. I hit a particularly hellish manic mixed mess and took Haldol for a couple weeks stomped the stuff right out of me. Personally I would never go that high because there just isn't enough study on effects going so high, but just my opinion

No. Like ~Christina, I've taken 400 mg. I think it was for a mixed episode that wasn't getting any better on a lower dose. 1600 mg does seem like an awfully high dose. I hope you'll be able to find some more information about it. Did your doc mention any potential problems you might have on a dose that high?

No big concerns. This should be absolutely fine because I've been on 1200 for so long. It is a huge dose but it was a difficult situation. I've had movement disorders happen on abilify, geodon, prozac and reglan and so the older anti-psychotics are pretty risky for me because I'm at high risk of getting movement disorders on them. I would prefer to add Latuda (and that may happen) but it would have to be through patient assistance which takes a week or two and this had to be treated now.

I agree with Christina that research would be nice but I've been off the beaten track with meds for many years. I have been on something like 60 cocktails and because of allergies, movement disorders and a lot of meds not working for me there aren't a lot of options left. Plus I'm on an MAOI so that restricts things even further because it interacts with a lot of the things that are usually used for sedation. So I am used to being on unusual meds and have a dr who is very well qualified to handle unusual situations and that is pretty much all she does now.

The scary thing is that I took it 3 hours ago and the valium 1.5 hours ago and I'm still awake. I thought I was getting sleepy and then wound up more agitated. I want to go clean something and am trying to stay in bed and relaxed. I can go up more on the valium but am too afraid to the first night with all the Seroquel added.

This mania is really determined to stick around.

Wow. I get exhausted when I take 25 mg. Maybe that's just because I don't take it that often anymore -- maybe 15 days a year. I can't imagine taking 1600 mg plus valium and still being awake. I'd probably sleep for a week. That's some intense mania, and I hope the higher dose of Seroquel kicks in soon. At least your manic urge is to start cleaning things, though.

I also took only 400mg. One side effect to be careful of is that Seroquel can cause elevated blood glucose levels. I am type 2 diabetic and had to quit taking it altogether.

I took 1600mg by accident once and I was fine. Hubby was on 800mg seroquel xr and he went through a phase where he'd hide meds. He was paranoid they'd get stolen or lost. WELLLLLL he stashed his seroquel in the tylenol bottle and I took two.

All it did was knock me out for like 20 hours but I woke up feeling the best I'd felt in a long time lol.

Fortunately I got him to break the habit of putting pills in the wrong bottles.

True, cleaning is a good thing.

Believe it or not I am still awake at 2:45. I took the Seroquel at 8:30, valium at 10:30 and the rest of my full valium dose that I never have used because it is like anesthesia at midnight. The only difference is I can lay still in the dark and sort of rest although my thoughts are still racing and I REALLY want to clean more.

I can't believe this didn't work.

I can't believe you are awake you have my most heartfelt sympathies. Maybe it's because you were already use to a high dose of seroquel? I'm a big girl and it knocked me out for the count.

It went like this. I took the "Tylenol" and sat on the couch for like 15 minutes.
ME: Honey I feel like i'm going to pass out I'm so sleepy. Like i don't know if i can actually get up.
HUBBY: (looking at me like a deer in the headlights) Ummmm don't be mad...what bottle did you get them from....oh dear you took my seroquel.

I'd never taken seroquel before so had no idea what it would do. I was so tired I couldn't even get mad at him. I just staggered into the bedroom

Hopefully something kicks in for you soon so you can get some rest.
Thanks for this!

Raindropvampire-That must have been quite a surprise. Seroquel is not exactly a fun drug to accidentally take.

I'm sure my being used to the high dose didn't help but I've never had the dose increased and not been knocked out for several days and 5 mg of valium was knocking me out for 20 hours just 2 weeks ago.

I did finally sleep, from 4:30 to 9:30. I'm hoping to get back to sleep for a little bit but it seems like more than anything it is just taking away my motivation. I still want to run around in a manic panic and my thoughts are still awful but I feel immobile. I could lay in bed just staring at the walls for hours. It's not a bad feeling, just a weird one since that usually goes with depression.

I hope tonight is better. My anti-depressant level should be down further and that reduces the agitation.
