Hi
Just wanted to share my new remedy for sleeping with everyone~

I have this lavender pet I sleep with and I try and get a super soft blanket, make sure my room is clean with no clutter under the bed, no strong smells or messes and possibly a nice breeze.

I also use ear plugs or listen to jazz music on low volume to help me not get distracted.

I think of clouds and really comforting things and think about myself falling asleep until eventually I do.

I hope this helps someone with their sleep issues or at least leads them to other helpful methods. <3

xoxo Hana

I do not like the scent of lavendar much but have found that pink grapefruit is very relaxing to me so I use it in an essential oil diffuser, my body wash that I use before bed, my hand soap every time I go to the bathroom and so basically I surround myself with the smell and it helps a lot. I keep forgetting to put it on a rag so I can use it (when it dries) to scent my laundry as well, kind of like a dryer sheet. I'm waiting for someone to ask why I smell like a piece of fruit (which I can't even eat because it is contraindicated with a med), but I don't care, it calms me down.

Thanks for sharing. Once in awhile I put on my candle wax melter with scents like lavender. I put on relaxing music, usually Celtic. Wearing a blinder is good to keep the light out of your eyes. Sometimes a cup of tea before bed is relaxing too

I know a little about essential oils. When I am going thru times of high anxiety or panic attacks. I put one drop of lavender essential oil in the middle of a Kleenex and carry it in my pocket. When an attack comes on I go in the bathroom or somewhere private so I don't look like a freak and take in a deep whiff of my Kleenex. I hold it in for a second and keep doing it for like a minute. It seems to work for me. I also do this if I'm having trouble sleeping.

I know almost nothing about essential oils. My sister is into them but I've not even gotten very close to hers. I have asthma and am triggered by a lot of chemicals and even natural things can trigger me so I've stayed back. I found the grapefruit thing completely accidentally. I had pink grapefruit hand soap from Target that I've had for a year or so. I happened to pull it out recently and when I was really manic noticed I was going and washing my hands with it a lot and smelling them. So I did some research and found that it can be calming, energizing, an antidepressant and an appetite suppressant. I decided to try and if it was energizing save it for when I needed that. The first night I had it I slept better and I've consistently had better nights when I've had it than when I haven't. I'm also eating less at night although I'm not sure if that's my kind of upset stomach from Seroquel or if it is the oil. I'm tending towards Seroquel, especially since I'm gainging wegiht without eating much.

I figure whatever works and this is cheap enough that errors can be made. I'm just planning to stick to things I know are ok, like things I use in the kitchen already.

It may never work again but if it gets me through this time it's done something.

Thats a really lovely sleep idea for people who have trouble. Much better than turning to meds.

I wear a neckless with a glass vial that has Cotton in it soaked with the oil. When stressed or about to have an attack I use it to ground myself by taking it off and sniffing it. I used to do the Kleenex or a rag thing but would have to hide away as well. I still do go to the bathroom if its a panic attack but Somehow people around me took this as more normal an acceptable than "huffing paint" as my girlfriend calls it for anxiety.I would just say I like the smell it relaxes me. Maybe this can help you as well?

I have a rose scented diffuser, and have this app on my phone that has a bunch of soothing sounds, and sort of pick a combination of sounds and focus on the sounds.

Works most of the time, unless my mind is especially busy that day...then I pop a benzo first.

and I leave the window open whenever possible...

You know, I actually like that scent as well, and lavender can get pretty potent smelling sometimes.. :S

Oh my goodness, that's pretty funny that you use it so much that you smell like a fruit because you would need to use a lot of it xD

I haven't thought of the dryer sheet thing but ill definitely have to try it... The ones from the stores have all sort of chemicals in them that aren't very good for you... :|

Thanks!! xoxo Hana

I know another thing I wanted to try when I made more money was a Himalayan Salt Lamp, because it has been proven to increase a good mood, clean the air inside, help with allergies, and be very soothing...

Here's a link by one of my favorite bloggers <3

Awhh..
You know i'm a firm believer that her energy is with your blanket and that is what helps to soothe you. :}

Also, lavender lotion is a great option for when you're in public and you want to de-stress yourself and be discreet about it.

That's a good technique, for a combo relaxer. c:

I just recently painted my room a darker colour and it has been doing wonders. I also have a few apps on my phone. One is a night time hypnotic called "I can make you sleep". Another plays soothing sounds and guided meditations called Calm but the subscription for the night time mediation recently went up in price. I was lucky and got it before the increase. I also hear Headspace is good but the subscription is also pricey.

If you do this just make sure the essential oil on the rag is completely dry or it will ruin your clothes and coat the inside of your dryer with oil. Or so I read.

I think I've been in pink grapefruit heaven for 2 weeks now and it DEFINITELY calms me down a bit. In fact my diffuser runs 3 hours and I often run it those 3 and then refill and let it run during the second part of my 5-6 hour attempt to get to sleep.

Tonight I am hoping to need nothing extra. I watched my nieces today and it was very hot (which gets me with my meds) and they are very busy little girls. I'm TIRED. I hope that means I get to sleep. Like all night. I would be so excited......
