Do you mean like the engulfing/controlling type of parent? Neglectful and engulfing may be two different circles of hell, but they are both well, circles of hell.

She is definitely engulfing...like ALL up in my business when it is not invited nor needed every single day. I get the motivation but it hinders me more than anything else. On the positive side I'm glad I had a parent that cares...Not sure if engulfing is worse than neglectful? They're both pretty bad

I can testify to anyone that neither is worse than the other, because my mother has always switched back and forth between the two, and they are both equally crazy-making, just in different ways.
Thanks for this!

Like after I had my last really bad psychotic break, my mother was in engulfing mode. She decided that she herself would diagnosis me and refused to take me to a psychiatrist. (She has absolutely no education whatsoever in psychology or psychiatry.) Not only did she diagnosis me incorrectly (lmao), but she also wanted me to be like her demented house pet. She kept me isolated in her house by myself, doing absolutely nothing, and with no psychiatric care, all Winter long. Because she was going to take care of me, she knew what was best, she wanted to be the one in control. And I was hers. She picked out my clothes. She told me how I felt, what I thought, what I needed. And so sweetly and lovingly, too.

Engulfing parents don't really care about the feelings or well-being of their child. They only care about control and feeling good about themselves. They will tell you that everything is for your own good and that all they do, they do because they love you, while they never really give a damn about you the entire time. If you have an engulfing parent then you have probably been mind****ed just as much people who have been neglected.
Thanks for this!

NAMI's Peer to Peer class includes some planning tools like this as well as a mental health power of attorney form (or it did when I took the class 3 years ago). I no longer have that binder as it didn't pass my "moving to 500 sq ft only vital items go" test a couple years ago but if you can find the forms or contact your local NAMI and ask if you might be allowed to have a copy that could help. Or even take Peer-to-Peer, it's a pretty good class. I was so sick that I don't remember it overly well but it helped me even that sick.

Why do I get the feeling that if the government ever really does try to do something large scale and terrible, the front line civilian defense is going to be composed over 90% of people with BP?

That is an awesome thought! I agree. In some sense, we're the only "sane" ones. There are so many people who are just blind to the injustices of our society and don't recognize we're being run by a corrupt government. I'm glad that as a bipolar person who is able to perceive many things, I can see the truths of the world we're living in. Not jealous of those who walk around blinded.

Well I'll totally admit that sometimes I am jealous haha. But I also wouldn't trade it if given the chance, I'd feel too guilty. I think that once you have been to hell and back inside of your mind, the outside world hardly seems too scary to really look at anymore.
Thanks for this!
