Welp, I thought it would be exciting to have a job after 3 months of being unemployed ... NOPE. It's the worst job ever, working "utility" at a crappy fast food joint. I was there for 9 hours yesterday and almost walked out several times. I talked with my dad this morning and he agreed that I should quit -- washing pots and pans all night is not my ideal scenario. Now I have to go to my manager and explain that the job just isn't working out for me. It kind of sucks, I feel like I'm letting them down but at the same time I don't really care -- I just want to have a job where I can actually DO something.
Luckily today also marks the beginning of my volunteer job so at least I'll have something to do besides sitting around my parent's house being bored and lonesome.

You do volunteer work? That's commendable. Sorry about the job situation. Sounds pretty crappy.

volunteer work is so much more meaningful than a real job. So if you can do that instead fantastic.

I had to quit my job after 2 months because I just couldn't do it and I felt the same way. My boss was pretty mad at me but it's not my fault he put me on 9-13 hour shifts and burned me out. I decided that he doesn't run my life, I do, and if I don't like something, I will change it.
I am proud of you for quitting! It took me way too long to say enough is enough, so good for you for realizing so early that you can't do the job. It makes it easier on your manager and on you. Good luck! ![]()

I think you deserve a pat on the back for even trying. The thought of working 40 hrs gives me racing thoughts. I can handle a little substitute work. You go in not all the time. I love volunteer work. I did it a lot before my onset. I plan on helping again.

Don't quit until you find something else. I don't know what it is like where you are, but
jobs here are few and far between. And we've all done crap jobs in our lives, but we did them and they made us stronger

Maybe tell your boss that the job just isn't something you want to do but offer to stay on until your position can be filled .. Sometimes a boss might ask you about doing other jobs and maybe that would be something you would be able to handle and even enjoy.

I started out as a dish pig at 12. I did it for 5 yrs until I was old enough and confident enough to serve. Was that purely your job? Every time I have had a dish pig job I have been run off my feet so busy doing a heap of things in between doing the dishes, I was told I had initiative and was usually put on the same pay rate as cooks or waitresses as I was doing so much behind the scenes and my bosses appreciated it. Wasn't the most glamorous job but it was piss easy to do with mood swings and it was a pay check. My bosses love it when I'm manic as long as I don't go near the public haha.
The volly job sounds good, what are you doing? |
