My psychiatrist told me I have a very unique psyche. I have had all of these issues except bipolar since I was 7 and got in a small plane crash that killed my dad and brother. I think many of my problems are personality related and not chemical, but meds help, especially Strattera. I have a unique life and unique diagnosis. I may be weird but I am still kicking. Anyone else have a long or odd diagnosis?

I have bipolar and generalized anxiety disorder and I'm pretty sure I have adhd but have not been diagnosed because my pdoc refuses to evaluate me for no good reason and I might actually have schizoaffective bipolar type but my pdoc hasn't decided yet. Not exactly exotic but it's still a bit long. I also have social anxiety and several phobias that get in the way of my life like driving and hot things (no cooking) but those aren't official diagnoses.

I also have a long list. But I'm confused. I read somewhere that if you are having psychotic symptoms, that automatically puts you in BP 1. I don't know I am a strange one. My therapist said I don't act like the tyoucal American bipolar so whatever that means, but I get euphoric and then start hallucinating.

Hi bepenniman,

I'm sorry to hear about your relatives. I'm glad that you were able to survive to say the least.

I was born bipolar as far as I can remember which isn't too far because my personality has been fragmented by Dissociative Identity Disorder (also known as Multiple Personality Disorder). A few of my others suffer from Borderline Personality Disorders, Social Anxiety, and ADHD. This makes me a person that has tons of opinions on everything and usually can't make my mind up. Other than experiencing dissociative trances, I also experience Depersonalization and Derealism.

I didn't ask for any of this, as it was thrusted upon me. All that I can do is take it and deal with it the best way I know how.

It's great that you are still kicking, hang in there!

I don't think what I'm diagnosed with is all that strange. Just bp and gad, but I think for a lot of people those two go hand in hand.

I do think my gad is worse than my bp. It permeates both my up and down, so my up is always anxiety ridden, which makes it crappy. I don't experience euphoric mania, or if I do it's overshadowed by my anxiety, which makes it suck.

Oh, and it's unfortunate because (other than the last person I was seeing, who recognized how severe my anxiety really is) doctors always focus on the mood thing, and the anxiety gets pushed to the side, when that's what my main problem is.

I've been told that i have different types of anxiety disorders. Dissociative disorder and adhd. I don't think it's necessary to keep my mind on a million disorders like its some badge or something. I just leave it at bipolar disorder. I think these all fit in the realm of Bp anyway

If my Pdoc wanted to label my junk I would have about 6 or 8 I suppose .. But he is under the thought process that Bipolar is an umbrella and Bipolar peeps have lots of problems/issue/symptoms.

Everyone had anxiety of all flavors.

Also triggers, Many present as PTSD

Most everyone has traits and issues with BPD and OCD

Psychosis .. Maybe not so much of that, lots of slinking cats outta the corner of eyes or hearing that silly radio that we cant ever seem to find

ADHD yeah my T and Pdoc have brought it up and I'm like , Meh whatever if you wanna add it go ahead and add it.

So Bipolar can encompass a boat load of symptoms and some pdocs like to check off lots of boxes, or one like mine that doesn't feel the need to Micro manage each symptoms.

I am not invalidating your diagnosis , not at all. I'm just speaking for my own dealings with Bipolar.. When I have needed to go IP .. well that Pdoc always list every possible thing, I think it really for insurance purposes or maybe he just like the Labels. I dunno

If it helps I know PTSD and dissociation can get better with hard work and a good T. I've heard the OCD can also get better the same way. Don't know Anything about ADHD. The BP a good T can help with identifying the early symptoms and learning different copping skills, but many people also take medication, some occasionally and others always. Im glad you already found a medication that helps but a good T helps increase stability.

Yes, I have decades of 'odd diagnoses' history. They all, therapists and p-docs, and neurologists, tell me the same...I have a finely-tuned and very unusual mind, I'm profoundly intuitive, maybe even psychic, sorta bipolar (but not exactly), something certainly seems to be going on neurologically (but no one knows what), here's some meds that, well, might help.......

I don't have the psychosis label, but I would love to find that radio.

I've never found the radio either but I've learned to stop caring to look and just enjoy the music even if it's hard to hear and not very good.

I find all my minor issues and diagnosis fall under the BP banner for me too. If you want to get technical its BPII with mixed features, ocd, pmdd and gad. I have been diagnosed with ptsd and adhd but I feel they have been overcome.

Re: anxiety
For me it's the opposite in that doctors and therapist have always been using anxiety to stall treatment. This happened with my bipolar, sleep apnea and asthma. I'm glad I have one now that doesnt let me use it as an excuse to lower my Tegretol dose. He sees thru it to recognize my mania by my long writings and expressive hand gestures, I suppose. I guess for me BP is the cause of the sleep and anxiety problems so I'm right as rain now but if yours is cormid, then both are really important. I'm trying to work on getting my sleep apnea seen as as serious as my BP with my pdoc and vice versa with my pulmonoligist. I wish everyone would just get on speaker or email each other so I don't have to be the go between!!

I don't know how bipolar and anxiety are related but I know my anxiety drives me to appear perfectly normal to other people which can be straining but also liberating in a funny kind of way. Not all people with bipolar have serious anxiety issues outside of depressive episodes like I do but I know a lot of people do.

My current pdoc doesn't even think it's possible to have adhd and bipolar at the same time so I really don't understand how IT relates to bipolar. I just am pretty sure I have it and have since I was younger.
