I am really not sure if it was a mistake to be put on this antipsychotic as my body has now became reliant to help me sleep. A few days ago I tried a entire day without taking the medication and I lost control of being manic and unable to sleep pretty quickly, and it worries me that I wont ever be taken off it. One day off it and I was buzzing around the shops, singing out loud and dancing all day. I haven't had any natural sleep for months. I know I should take my medication, but I just feel so weak to be dependent on it to control my moods, thought process etc. I do however exercise and try to have a healthy diet. But it still doesn't change the fact that my body has become dependent on it for sleep.
Does anyone have this problem where they can't sleep without it? Sorry for the rant. Ahahaha.

I was put on a relatively high dose when manic to bring me down. Once I'd been stable for a few months my pdoc worked with me to very slowly taper off it. I'm not surprised you can't sleep if you are currently on 600 and just miss it. Once off it I was stable on just a mood stabiliser, but occasionally took a small dose of seroquel for a few days if I noticed my sleep getting less and other early manic warning signs.
So yes you can get off it, but do work with your pdoc to do it safely. |

I wouldn't mess around like that, it's potent. I was on 400mg twice. A couple of years ago my incompetent pdoc took me off of it over a two week period and I instantly went into a mixed episode. A few months back, with the advice of my new pdoc, I came off of it over I think a three month period. I think every two weeks or so I went down 50mgs. It sucked. I felt like I had the flu for about three days every time, and I would feel a sense of being hypo for a period of time. Then when things would start to get better it was time to go down another 50. When I was done I could not sleep at all. My pdoc and I figured out a combination of meds to help, but it's not perfect. I think my sleep is going to be messed up forever, and it's been a couple of months now. There is no consistency, some nights are ok, and other nights are hell. My mood is stable just being on lamictal, but I don't have BP with psychosis like so many seem to have. I'm considering at my next appt. asking to go on 50mg of Seroquel, since I've heard the low doses help with sleep. I don't want to, but I'm sick of this up and down, I just want to sleep. So yes this does happen. Just be careful, like I said it can be hazardous messing with these meds.

I was only on seroquel for seven months, averaging 200mg a night, and now I think my sleep is messed up because of that (and other factors). I went straight from seroquel to geodon. I think my sleep will get better in time.

I'm on 25 mg of Seroquel. I started at 300 mg and gradually was able to come down. The three times I've missed taking it over the past several months resulted in totally messed up sleep. Twice I lay awake for hours and the last time I did fall asleep but woke up after 3 hours......couldn't sleep after that. I didn't realize I missed the doses at the time until the next morning. (Sure enough the pill was still in the cup.) I don't expect to ever sleep normally without it, but I don't plan to. Along with Lamictal, Seroquel kept me stable for several years.

I can't sleep without it either, but after months of insomnia (went down to 98 pounds from 130 and I was eating so pretty sure it was lack of sleep) I thank the universe for it!!!!! I will gladly take it for the rest of my life if I have to. I literally went days on end without a minute of sleep.

Whoa. Well, I've only been on it for a few months. When I was sent to hospital they didn't give it me on the first night and instead gave me a sleeping tablet which didn't do much for me. I was only on it for a few weeks then!! It's scary how my body just wouldn't sleep without it so quickly

I couldnt sleep for ages!!! The only that could get me asleep was copious amounts of pot. Which is illegal and can make your brain permanently enter a psychosis, well i know that now... im on 300mg of seroquel, and 1000mg navalpro. Its helping me to get my s*#t together.
Bare in mind, if you are on it now, it doesn't necessarily mean you will be on that cocktail for the rest of your life. I know it's flipping cliche and all that, but the advice the clinic's give, been in 3 times, take one day at a time, worry about today, let tomorrow worry about itself... In a couple of months your doc could lower it, change it, who knows...? But sleep is vital for us, any sort. Otherwise... Well, I'm sure you know what you end up doing.... |
