I talked about my not taking my meds as prescribed and asked my pdoc if he would still see me in the event I ever stopped my meds deliberately when I saw him today. His response was a little shocking! He told me that Lamictal needed to be a staple but basically that I can stop everything else. Since I have a history of hearing and obeying the voice of God , he told me stories of mothers killing their children because they believed God told them to do so. He said if I start to get too high (like right now), I will need the Abilify and too low, I will need the Zoloft. Are you kidding me? I get to stop almost everything. I've been asking to cut down on my meds for a while and have always been told no. Now this? I don't know what to think?

All at once?????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please don't do that until the 2nd 2nd opinion. There is no way it is good for you to come down off that many meds without a taper plan, one or two at a time, etc. That is just plain old scary.

Granted though, I hate the medicated feeling...it's so like dull. If I was going to stop meds and feel alive again, I'd have to quit them all, not saying that's what you should do. I really don't get too psychotic though, but I do at times get caught up in my beliefs. I wishing you wisdom. ![]() |

Your pdoc told you that you could just stop taking everything, besides the lamictal? Wow. Are you going to taper off the lithium, abilify, zoloft, vyvanse, and clonazepam all at once? Or are you just going to cold turkey everything?

Please be careful! I don't understand your pdoc at all. First he keeps adding meds one after another and now he's saying you don't need any of them? I don't get it. Please don't quit all of them at once. That's just asking for trouble, especially because you're a bit elevated right now.
I don't know. I think it's a bad idea. I think he should at least be making a taper schedule for you and monitoring this, only doing one at a time. He has you on so much. It seems so very irresponsible to me. Be careful.

Yes...the impression I got from him was this: if you're not taking your meds right anyway, go ahead and stop, just make sure you take the Lamictal and understand there will be necessary times for you to take more. I mean, I have gotten my meds ALL screwed up lately. I won't take them for days and then I'll take them twice then not again for days, etc. It is pretty ridiculous. I was very forthright with him. He also knows how much I hate them from the past.
Raspberry: yes, I do take Haldol, but it is only PRN so not as big a deal as all of the others.

Just remember what has happened when your meds weren't helping and multiply that by several times since they probably were doing something that didn't feel like much and are you really ready to face the mania where you can't stop spending money or the delusions or the scary paranoia. And all that would come crashing down on you if you stop all of a sudden.

I dunno... I would clarify with your doctor because it makes no sense to me. He or she would want to wean you off of the clonopin at least.

Yeah. I don't know how long you've been on clonazepam, or how much you take, but if you've been on it a long time and are taking it regularly, I wouldn't stop that cold turkey.

I see him again on the 31st. I will wait until then to make any changes. I am also trying to be deliberate again about consistency. This is never an issue when I am unwell, only when I am well for some reason. I also go for my 2nd opinion in the middle of next month. We will see.

I am wondering if it is because you don't take them anyway?
Lamicital is the one that you must stay on top of because of the rash. You can't skip for a while and then take it at a high dose. SO he is saying " fine, don't take them just stick with lamictal?" I don't know. Just a guess. |

I generally do take my meds; I just haven't been lately. It wouldn't be terribly difficult to get back into a routine and that is what I expected him to focus on and what I intended to do. He said the reason he wants the Lamictal as a "staple" is because it is the best mood stabilizer and it will keep me the most balanced. He said we can add and remove others as needed. I was just VERY surprised. My husband and I were supposed to talk about how to proceed tonight but we never did it.

Weigh the pros and cons. If you notice that's something undesirable is goin fb on when you start to taper off of your meds then talk to your doctor.
What is pdoc? I was wondering bc if it's a primary doctor or APRN that doesn't specialize in behavior health? I think you can do it. Just be careful and I hope to u have a lot of support from friends and family. For me, I can't stop medications. I have schitzoaffective disorder, Bipolar type. It really sucks. I get severely irritable and want to die, get severely delusional too....and anxiety. I would eave my job, cheat on my husband, and probably run off...oh and constantly stay confused, not be able to concentrate...... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G750A using Tapatalk |
