I was prescribed and have been taking Seroquel for the past 2 1/2 -3 weeks and it has immensely helped with halting my mania and stabilizing my mood. However, I have an insatiable appetite now, which is bad news. I did the same thing with Depakote and gained 90 pounds in less than a year on Depakote. I DO NOT want a repeat with Seroquel as it has taken literally 5 years to lose 30 pounds from my "Depakote debacle". I'm going to talk to my pdoc's nurse tomorrow to request to be taken off Seroquel & put on something else that doesn't cause increased appetite and rapid weight gain. Any ideas of something to request that will level out moods & not cause the weight gain issues?

I take geodon. It actually made me lose ten pounds. You could ask about it. I actually went to it from seroquel and yes, seroquel made me want to eat a house too! Geodon no.

I ate so much on Seroquel. I would sleep walk to the refrigerator at night to eat and promptly fall asleep. Never. Again.

The good old "Seroquel sweet tooth"

Most nights, I set aside a small sweet snack and plan to eat it about 30 minutes after taking my meds. Small amount of chocolate, something like that. Try to take my mindful time savoring it.

Gives me something to look forward to about the meds, and avoids me wandering down to the kitchen and eating everything in sight.

When I took the seroquel prn it made me hungry. Now I am on it every day. But wierdly enough since my pdoc added ativan in the morning also I am not getting the side effects from the seroquel including wiping out the hunger issues. He has me on the ativan for aggitation and I haven't told him it wipes out the side effects for me.

Regular seroquel made me a hunger beast but when switched to the extended release it wasnt nearly as bad. Had to stop it though made me sleep 14-16 hrs a day. Not very productive.

I've been on seroquel for ten years but never gained because I have an eating disorder. But I do know all about the eating. I'll wake up at 6am and eat and just go back to bed. A lot of people have this problem with many ap. Have you ever tried risperdal or Abilify? Also, my pdoc prescribed me vyvanse for cravings and it's a miracle for me because I binge/purge.

I mean it's a miracle because it's curbed my binging tremendously

I gained 40 lbs. in 4-5 months on Depakote. I was on Seroquel twice. The best AP so far for me, stabilized and slept like a baby. I couldn't stop eating. The second time pdoc added Topamax to stop the cravings but that **** makes you as dumb as a box of rocks. Seroquel caused me to be pre-diabetic so I came off of it I think six months ago. Tried to just be on lamictal but had my first experience of psychosis so I just started Geodon two weeks ago. I will be going up to 60 mg tomorrow, so it's not at a therapeutic level yet. I'm still hypo and doing semi-better at sleeping. It's weight neutral, and I haven't had any problems. I understand your frustrations. I've lost 70 lbs over the past 2 1/2 years when I've been off of Seroquel, and put on thyroid meds. Forty pounds when off Seroquel. So yeah, in a nutshell I get it.

My seroquel has been upped to 800mg lol. I don't really have much of an issue with eating. I still eat very little at times but because I am depressed I am eating a bit more and my sleep has gone from 3 or 6 hours too 12 or 13 hours. I know it's not the tablet as I had little sleep on a high dose before.
