Does anyone else have worsened hallucinations around their period? I'm having an increase in auditory and olfactory hallucinations and I had my first visual hallucinations this week. The only change I recognize is I'm nearing my period. I have adenomyosis, something similar to endometriosis, and the pain is flaring up much worse than it has in awhile, so I'm thinking my hormones are just really out of whack this cycle. Do you think the hormones could be triggering the hallucinations?

My pdoc is sending mee to an endocrinologist to see what's up with my hormones. My GYN's solution is birth control shot. I definately have manic episodes approaching my cycle about every 2-3 months. This means my "visual distubances" are increased as well. Thanks for the post. At least I know it's not just me.

Absolutely...The most psychotic incident I've ever in my life had happened the night before I started my period. I hallucinated God calling my name and believed that my mentor was going to telepathically cast demons from me. I was more manic that entire week than I have been in my entire life (the mania itself lasted about 6 months; I was unmedicated and it was my longest).

Back in the day my periods made all of my symptoms worse, so I went on the depo provera shot to get rid of the periods altogether. Have not regretted it. There can be risks of difficulty with pregnancy after taking the shot for a long time, though, so it's worth researching if you want children in the future. Wasn't an issue for me so I went for it.

The difference between hormones and menopause has been pretty spectacular for me. Not this year but before it I had 2 years of only mild episodes most of the time and I responded to meds better than before. This year has been horrible but even then without so much hormone action I haven't been quite as sick as in the past, according to my therapist. I don't remember. I had early menopause and then a hysterectomy that increased the speed. By the dr's estimates I should be completely finished with menopause in about 2 years and at this point I rarely have any hormonal symptoms. I had no idea how much the hormones affected my bipolar until they weren't there so much.
