How do you know if you're manic? I'm recently diagnosed but not on any medication yet, as I just started meeting with a T not long ago.
I know my mood has been eccentric lately with some irritability mixed in. People are pointing all of this out. They're annoyed. Even I'm annoyed at times. But I can't stop. I'm talking to myself. Laughing at everything. My thoughts are racing and I feel like I'm going crazy. But at the same time this is so exhilarating. I feel free. I feel like I can do anything. I know I shouldn't do some of these things and I'm trying to keep myself in check. But the thoughts, the ideas, there's so many. And they all sound so magnificent.
I don't know what to do. Sleep isn't helping. I used to try to sleep it off. I'm trying ever so hard to keep myself under control. ****. This is not good. I have an appointment with my T Monday. I just don't know how bad this can get. Maybe it won't. I just really need some advice.

Are you sleeping? For me, my first two signs of hypomania is irritability and have trouble with sleep. If mine gets worse I call my pdoc and get my meds adjusted. If I don't it can turn bad fast. Make sure to tell your T Monday everything you said on here. Maybe it's time for meds, if that's the route you choose to go. Hope it works out.

Sleeping, yes. Much, no, not really. Getting anywhere from 2-4 hours. I'm really trying to control this, to manage it. My T's been pushing for meds, but I continually keep trying to put them off.

Is your Therapist willing to work with you unmedicated?

I'm against medication normally and I am heavily medicated. My therapist and I were talking about medication Friday. He take psych meds too and was against meds too but it came down to quality of life not just for the person taking the medication but their loved ones.

Eating healthy, exercise, and a tight schedule helps. CBT therapy also help.

You sound just like me when i go hypo. Exactly!

You seem to be able to see symptoms quite clearly already i think. Sleeping 2-4 hours and people reacting to your behavior are clearly telling that you're in manic side (if it's been going on for days, not just one bad night and overtired next day or so)

I can recognize all this in myself. Now i'm trying to learn what are the triggers and very first symptoms. That's important skill in future of your treatment. You could be maybe be getting over enthusiastic with your job/school or something like that when episode is about to start

Meds will help you. Eventully. It may take really long time to find correct nes. Iwas able to start coping with symptoms after my medication was starting to work right way. I'm happy for you coz you seem to already have a hunch what's going on

Yes things u point out I also do when manic. Plus insomnia and others things too. I take meds to help control my mood called mood stabilizers. It's not my plan to tell u to take meds....I'm simply telling u what helped me. I'm BP1 and s*** is tough in my world as I'm sure others deal with hard situations too.

I can recognize the ramp up through hypomania. Lack of sleep, irritability and angry outbursts are the norm for me. Always seem to go through mixed episode first, then into the "happy fun" part. I never see the transition to full on mania though.

I was off meds for a long time after many years on them. Things got worse. I don't like being back on meds but they really do help me in the long run. My last manic episode I walked out of a very good job, burning bridges on the way out. Sucks that I can't repair that damage now.

I hope you can find the best route for you. I'm finding a combination of meds and therapy are working ok right now for. Unfortunately, for many of us, the exhilarating part goes away all too fast and you're left to pick up the pieces later.
