I have been having issues with being on the depressive side of bipolar for the best part of 18 months, with spikes in mild mania maybe a couple of times a month if that. My Mood charts indicate I am way more depressed than manic. I have major issues with anxiety, and am taking Lamotrigine to control stability of mood, and Valium for anxiety. I have tried three lots of Anti Psychotics in this time, with no real long term changes to the depressive side of my bipolar.

I was recently hospitalized, where another AP was prescribed, however it made my depressive side worse and I immediately put on significant weight in a very short space of time.

After a heap of arguing, and more than 10 years passing, I have got my Pdoc to agree to trying an AD again. 10 years ago it caused major mania, however a lot has changed medication wise in that time, and I am banking on this fact. I have been prescribed Lexapro 10mg.

Has anyone had any experience with it, what it did for their depressive side, whether it drove their mania, and issues with weight gain. The weight gain is my major worry, thanks to my OCD and according to my Dietician, Anorexic Tendencies.

Any feedback welcome

Lexapro initially made me feel much better. However, it caused a side effect of inorgasmia which seriously sucked, and then it launched me into a mixed episode with psychosis.
Thanks for this!

I didn't have any weight gain with Lexapro. My biggest problem with it was that it killed all my emotions. I wasn't sad but I wasn't happy, either. It kind of turned me into a jerk because I didn't care what people thought of me.
Thanks for this!

I actually lost weight on it. I was 112 & got down to 101. Yikes.
It caused euphoria within hours of starting but then it calmed down.
I felt numb on it. It helped my anxiety.
I also drank a lot back then so not sure how affective it was.

kept me in a mid grade Mania for months , which was "nice" but of course it turned hellish ugly and coming back outta that seemed to take a few decades.

Lexapro worked great for me for around 5 years...then it just stopped working. I had to take 40mg a day to get any benefit from it, though. No weight gain from this med.

I've been on Lexapro since 2004 along with an AP. I was pretty much depressed up until I decided to stop taking my AP in 2006 without telling my pdoc but continued with Lexapro for about a year which then made me quite manic. I finally confessed to my pdoc and he then put me back on my AP and I haven't experienced depression since 2006-7. I have not gained weight from Lexapro nor my AP.
Thanks for this!

Works for me. Does not make me manic or gain weight. I am on Lamotrigene and lexapro.

Ohh, I have had troubles having orgasms for years. Most partners do not take the time needed and I just end of masturbating.

That is just a side effect that I have accepted for the most part. Oh well.

It was the first med I was on. I ended up inpatient too but for sui att rather than mania. So who knows it it was related. It was crap for depression

I took Lexapro prior to be diagnosed with BPI. It just numbed me up.
The AD that I have the best luck with has been Effexor. It's not a pure AD since it's meant to help with anxiety as well.
